1. Television.
I hate it. It seems like every single show out there is sheer crap or reality television. The networks no longer even try to fill their slots. I thought that it was only lesser networks like Fox, UPN and WB that do this. Even the major ones put on repeats, put two episodes of the same show in a row. This never happened when I was a kid.
It's like they don't even care what their audience thinks anymore. If a show is unique and promising, it gets cut off the air.
Most of the shows are vapid, empty and trite. Every time I see an ad for the Swan I just get so angry and annoyed. That such a concept for a show could exist. That millions of people watch it.
I hate the feeling I get if I watch too much television. I feel enervated, the way I often do if I eat something with transfat in it. I can almost feel such things clogging up my arteries and sapping out my energy and just making me grumpy and angry.
2. Commercials.
They seem to be getting lamer and louder by the second. Take these McDonald's and Burger King ads. They're completely obnoxious. I don't know which is worse, that stupid I'm lovin' it song or those office losers.
3. Political Arguments.
I'm tired of them. They stress me out so much. People just use the same tired arguments for every debate.
Woman's right to choose
abortion is murder
Homosexuality is a sin
It's a choice
It's not a choice

Why can't people come up with some new argument that will completely blow me away? Instead of just saying that homosexuality marriage will destroy society give me some sort of proof. Give me a specific reason WHY it's a sin instead of just quoting the bible at me.
Plus the secular arguments aren't even enough either. These are human beings we're talking about, complicated ones with all sorts of drives and desires.
And for heaven's sake, will the two sides PLEASE listen to the other?
4. Movies that Potray Life as Hopeless.
I disagreed with some of OSC's views on American Beauty, yet at the same time I wonder why the Suburbs are either potrayed as perfect, or hopeless.
For example, the movie Happiness which is a movie about really pathetic annoying people. I hate those sort of movies.
Is reality really like this? Hopeless? Getting some meaningless job and hating it like Lester in American Beauty and behind each well manicured lawn lies a bunch of frustrated and discontented people?
Or is it like Ozzie and Harriet?
Where's the middle ground?
Reality CAN'T just be meaninglessness and depression anymore than being pure joy and light, yet hardly anything I see shows me this.
How I hunger for interesting stories that will make my blood sing.

A not so trivial thing-
The War in Iraq. The more I hear about it, the more I'm against it, but what can be done? Nothing. It seems to be falling apart and with this latest scandal...
Am I alone in thinking this will cause more terrorism instead of preventing it?

Bush
I'm frustrated by him. He has cut spending on programs for veterans, reversed environmental laws, started this war, and a whole host of stuff, yet I cannot find a decent argument against him so that I don't sound like an idiot for criticising him and his policies.
He seems to, in my narrow observation, started this war with very little information and he seems to me to lack attention to detail.
The more I read and learn about him... the more stressed out and uneasy I feel...
Am I going nuts being so frustrated over such small things?

Maybe you're going nuts over these things, but at least you're not the only one [Smile]

Well, I wouldn't necessarily call those things "small things".

That was an impressive rant though, I hope you feel better [Smile]

I'm with you on the TV thing. The problem is that we are not the target audience.

My brother worked for several years at TVRatings.com, installing survey equipment in people's homes. The people who leave their TVs on all day, sometimes just for the sake of background noise to make their home feel less empty, those people blow away the ratings numbers generated by normal viewers. Tons of people leave their TVs on all day.

The consumers who buy stuff advertised on TV are the target audience. That's couch potatos and kids.

More things that bother me-
The rating system... I don't know much about it, but it sounds illogical what little I do know.

People I disagree with-
I like them anyway, most of them. How many friends of mine I managed to convert to a certain idea...
Or the scary feeling of being the only heathen among the devout...
And turning all their expectations and concepts upside down.

Reading your post, Syn, I got to thinking about the idea OSC presented in the Worthing Saga. Most of the things that annoy you have to do with out society.

Could we really change if suddenly everyone lost their memories and we had to start all over?

I say it's worth a try...who's with me? [Wink]

These things ALWAYS annoy me... But there's nothing I can really do about them, so It's silly to complain.

1. Throw it away; TV sucks.
2. Commercials suck. See #1.
3. As far as it is in your power, live in ignorance.
4. Watch action movies.

Any examples?
There's nothing worse than an idiot having Absolute Power over a Group of People.
