I finally watched this flick after numerous forgotten recommendations (and having missed it at the theatres).
In some preternatural way, I think this is Bill Murray's best performance. The comedy (with his exceptional timing and poignance) was there, though buffered in a romcom quasi-drama.
The film itself wasn't that exceptional, but some of the writing (conceptually) and acting definitely were.
One thing that bothered me immensely, though, was the editing of Andie whatserface's footage (read: fallow can't spell her last name). I think I understand the casting, but I can't fathom why anyone felt the need to chop her accent to bits or shove it down into the background. I think it would have made her character a whole lot stronger, interesting and engaging.

I liked "Groundhog Day" as a cute romantic comedy and agree that it was Bill's best performance at the time it was made. (Though "Caddy Shack" made me laugh more.) *embarrassed smile*
Have you seen "Lost In Translation"? I think that it is Bill's best performance to date. It is deep and warm and moving, yet it leaves one completely baffled. But I guess that was the point.
You liked Lost in Translation? (I really liked it quite a lot.)
I thought Groundhog Day was conceptually interesting. I liked the writing in that it explored the possibilities of the "gimmick" and took a couple turns here and there.
