Either I'm about to lose faith on America, or I don't live happily in here.

Is there a particular reason or are you just feeling like you want to live somewhere else?

I support my country, right or wrong: when right, to be kept right, and when wrong, to be made right.

I'm with CT on that one. The one thing we can say about our country, right or wrong, is that it is OUR country.

W2W, I've got to admit that I don't believe you.

If I were Native American, this statement would really bother me. But maybe it's just because of how I, as a 2nd generation American, have been received by many 5-10 generation Americans. I've only seen hate from other minorities, but I'm always treated as a curiosity by whites.

P.S. on the original question, I do love America. The land is beautiful. I feel afraid for the people when they are arrogant. It's both my religious believe and an apparent truth of human nature that when you think you are great, you stop improving, and decay sets in.

As someone born in America, I consider myself to be native American, and I consider it to be my country (even when it makes me look bad.)

I believe that America cannot just state that it is the land of the free, it must live up to those pure ideals.

With the obligatory North Carolinian 1/16th Cherokee, I guess you could count me with the Native American population, some governmental groups do.

But honestly, it is OUR country in the all inclusive. Born here, brought here, achieved citizenship, active participants, second generation or seventieth, what the country is, what the country was, what the country could be... it's all up to us.

We've taken a big gloopy mixture into our melting pot and done the best with it that we could. And we keep trying to do better. And you know what? It's been working for over 200 years now.

But what other place in the world can say that they have citizens who have descended from EVERY other country of the world? And that each one of those citizens has the opportunity to become Secretary of State (I left off president since that does require natural born status)?

Your odds might not be great here, but at least you're given a shot.

Actually, Sopwith, I can say that Canada has citizens who have descended from every other country. I don't know if Americans can say that, though; once someone has stepped on its shores, they are "American" through-and-through, with no regard to their heritage. I'm sorry if I came off a bit abrasive; I just strongly support the mosaic philosophy. It helps with not blinding citizens with fanatical nationalism enough to lead them through completely contradictory and asinine endeavors (ex. War for Peace).
