What, in your opinion, would make the world a better place? Anything is possible.

I think the world would be a better place, if everyone was en empath. Feeling what other's feel isn't such a bad thing.
Pigs would fly too. [Razz]

Let me add on - what are you doing to make the world that better place which is your ideal?

I think the world would be a better place if everyone did their little bit to keep the planet clean. For my little bit, I recycle, buy recycled goods, and clean with things like vinegar and baking soda. I teach all the children I know to put their trash in the trash can. I teach the children what happens to trash left to blow about. I clean up other people's trash on occasion.

I think the world would be a better place if every child had someone to believe in him or her. For my little bit, I teach. I strive to help every child I come into contact with to be honest with themselves, to strive for their best, and to honor who they are. My dream is to take my students beyond the point where I am capable of teaching them, and releasing them to better/more specialized mentors or to their own self-learning.

I think the world would be a better place if people played more. In this spirit, I host my annual May Revel, I invite those around me to balance on ledges and climb trees, and I stick my feet in fountains.

I identify situations where I am prone to be an idiot, and avoid those situations at all costs.

This is not very effective. I need a new plan.

I'm with Jenny... make your corner as good as you can make it...

She's probably horrified that I'll cite Patton to support her but:
quote:
If I do my full duty, the rest will take care of itself.
or, in Jesus terms,

quote:
first remove the plank from your own eye...then you can see clearly to remove the spec from your brother's
We are often too busy trying to get what we think is Justice to worry about actually solving problems.

I just don't associate you and Patton very closely... he was very much the warmongering, egotistical, superficially pious person that most people seem to associate with Neoconservatives these days (not trying to get political, but to explain that I seriously doubt anyone views you that way...)

So does that mean that people would kiss instead of shaking hands, or does that mean that you'd be making out with everyone you met?

I think the world would be a better place if we all had three different shifts of time to work on, that way there'd be enough jobs for everybody and everything could always stay open. The logistics of this would be rather complicated but I've given it some thought and I think there's some real benefits to be had under this plan.

I hate to say it, but fighting does sometimes solve things. I think the world would be a better place if people were willing to declare fighting off limits and then not do anything that only a smackdown would stop.

I don't think Patton was superficially religious, I think he was actually quite devout, just his idea of what should be done about it and the average Christian's kind off differed ("Do you read your Bible? "Yep, every God damned day.")

Ohh Jim, btw, I sent out another letter, I'll let you know what happens. [Angst] Thanks for all the help, this can count as cleaning up your bit of the world since it's certainly making me a lot happier. [Big Grin]

Hobbes,

cool on that.

Regarding Patton, he certainly was strong and self-consistent in his beliefs and I actually admire the guy for them... that's why, for example, I chose "superfiucially pious" instead of "hypocritically" (my original word choice): he wasn't hypocritical, but his piety was something he could clothe himself in and then drop whenever he felt like.

But there's little doubt that most people today would consider him everything they would hate to have in a leader... and my point was- that's not the way we see Andrea at all.

Leave it to me to try to compliment someone and end up insulting others, though.

So, all due apologies to General George. I wouldn't dog the guy if I didn't really admire him... and didn't mean to bag on him so badly.

apologies for thread derailment.

Oh, I don't think fighting is the best way of solving things, and it can't solve everything, but there are some things in life that a swift punch ends pretty permanently. Not a lot, and I don't advocate it, but you can't say it doesn't solve anything.

I guess hugging and making up when you still really hate someone is, in a twisted way, worse than fighting.

I wish communism worked as well. Or capitalism. I don't think any system would be too bad if everyone were sincerely motivated to get it to work.

I actually need to go out and mow down some dandelions.

Right now, the plan is work hard this summer to add to savings, then invest in real estate. (Obviously my goal is not going to be achieved overnight.)

Or another thought would be if we could change the fact that fighting CAN provide a definate solution to some problems,.
Another thing that would greatly improve the world would be to make college expenses drop. I can't believe that in order for me to get a BA in Media Arts & Animation at the art institute of California, I must pay over $70,000.

The expenses can't drop unless the expenses of a lot of other things drop as well.

Of course, the price charged could decrease if someone else picks up some of the slack.

I don't know about the world, but the U.S. would be a better place if young people (myself included) stopped wasting their money on stupid materialistic things and instead invested them in a diverse portfolio designed for long-term growth (such as mutual funds.) That way we wouldn't have a reason to whine when our Social Security checks fail to materialize, or they aren't as big as they "should" be.

Five things that could fix the world:

1. If people stopped believing their enemies were evil
2. If people stopped demanding respect for themselves, and started giving it more freely
3. If people gave up the idea that the ends justify the means
4. If people weren't so afraid of things
5. If people could be more openly silly, especially about that which that we most care about
