He was a great guy. I enjoyed him in every single movie in which I've seen him! Especially all the Rock Hudson/Doris Day ones... and now he made a cameo in Down With Love.

There aren't really many of them left. [Frown]

I used to watch that show, he was really funny. It's sad that he died, maybe this is just morbid curiosity, but how did he die?

I don't remember the name just now but my favorite was a show where he played a judge. Funny stuff.

The sad part is that he leaves behind two small children, one seven years old and the other five.

Exactly, Derrell.

I heard this morning. I've been a bit sad all day. Poor kids. [Frown]

That is horrible. [Frown]

But - 84 with a 7 year old and a 5 year old? Man, that guy started late.

I guess if you have a child at age 79 you have accepted the fact that you won't be alive for most of their life... probably not even for their teenage years.

Doesn't make it better for the child though.

Not his first kids, I don't think. But then, he did marry a woman many years his junior. [Dont Know]

Yeah, I guessed as much.

I don't know, I think it's kind of irresponsible/selfish having children at that age.

It means it's inevitable that they won't grow up with their father. [Frown]

I don't entirely disagree, although until about a year ago, Randall was (reportedly) in far better health than many men decades his junior.

It's not like having kids in your twenties or thirties is any guarantee that you will be around.

Also, I believe he had a first wife who died of an illness.

Sad to hear that. I first knew him from the Late Show with David Letterman, he'd come on all the time.

No, I know. But the probabilities are far, far better.

----

As an aside.. in succession law, when probabting a will, it is sometimes necessary to look at whether parties may have children in the future. For the purpose of this, a woman is considered capable of bearing children up till 55, while a man is considered capable until his death. I know the latter is biologically true, it just always struck me as odd in cases where the party in question was a 95 year old man with great-great-grandchildren...
