Which one is correct? I've seen "loosing" a whole lot, but to me I see that as in "loose that knot." The application of "loosing" seems like it should be "losing a friend."

They're both correct; they just mean different things.

"Losing" is a form of "to lose" -- the opposite of "to find."

"Loosing" is a form of "to (let) loose" -- the opposite of "to capture."

I had no idea this was such a difficult distinction to make. My hubby always uses "loosing", as if he doesn't even know there is such a word as "losing". It drives me bananas.

Please, oh please, learn that LOSE is different than LOOSE!
