Do you guys get this little 5-minute Garrison Keillor segment on your NPR station?
That intro piano music has the strange unique abillity to make me entirely subdued and relaxed and lose all muscular tension no matter where I am... and then Garrison's lovely voice.
It makes me want to go write something in a leather-bound book while sitting in a study with a harwood floor with the slight smell of pipe tobacco in the air.
By the way, today is the birthday of P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins.

I think they should play it a lot more often. And on conservative talk radio too... that would really calm people down.

Garrison Keillor has one of the greatest radio voices of our time. We get those little five minute things on NPR here in Atlanta too. I love him and them.
Still, however, nothing beats "Prairie Home Companion."

Interestingly, even this peaceful show can cause controversy.
The Writers Almanac was on the Radio Kansas (public radio station) right around noon until about two years ago. Then it was taken off the air because of a remark that Keillor made that was deemed inappropriate by somebody who must have sent the station a big pledge.
There were enough complaints it was put back on the air, but at a time that is way out of prime time; I never hear it any more.
The western Kansas (Hi Plains) public radio stations still have it on at the noon hour where it can still presumably corrupt anyone who listens.
In any case, the whole incident proved to me that (1) NPR is not immune to influence of the wealthy contributor (2) Keillor might not get along with all conservatives.
I agree with you that the show had a calming and easy approach. I wish I still worked in western Kansas so I could hear it.

I have only rarely heard Garrison Keilor on public radio -- and don't know where to find in on the dial in my area of Kansas.
However, the husband of my veterinarian was a guest on Keilor's show once -- he composes and sings folk music and got to go on Garrison's show and perform. It was cool.

Annie, I do not know. But I do the rest of my post is correct. I emailed the Radio Kansas people and told them that if they objected to some of Keillor's humor, they would be taking Prairie Home Companion off next.
Farmgirl, yep. School is getting close. Only this year I get to visit Japan during October; I am really looking forward to that!!
Also, you need to try 89.5 on FM for Radio Kansas, KHCC. That is probably a safe bet since it is from Hutchinson Community College. Prairie Home Companion is on on Saturday evening and again on Sunday at 1 p.m. I listen to them as I drive back from western KS every Sunday.

That is what they say here, too. "Car Talk" is another expensive one. Do you listen to that one? I really like it.

Thanks, screechowl. Yep, the HCC station is close by -- I have listened to it before -- I guess I just never caught Keillor's program on it. Thanks for the times.

Oh cool -- one of those principal exchanges? My daughter's principal did that this past year -- went to Bulgaria to exchange with a principal that came over here for several weeks...
