I'll just bump this for now, but reply in the morning. It's been an exhausting day, and it is very late (I'm just checking Hatrack because I can't sleep).

I'll update you in the AM. Thanks from all your thoughts and well-wishes - I could feel them when I needed them today.

Thanks for asking. It went -- as expected, I guess. It was rough.

Made rougher by having two television stations show up (media presence is to be expected in cases like this, but the last time they somehow didn't get word, and weren't there). One of the newcasters was gracious enough to talk with me FIRST, and ask permission to do an interview afterwards, etc. But I hate being on-camera. I refused to watch it on the news yesterday (even though I'm sure my mom VHS-taped it). Because they always get some facts wrong somewhere.

It was really hard to "read" the parole board. They really made very little comment during our presentation, and I think they resented the TV cameras being there.

That was our 15 minutes of passionate plea. (okay, longer than 15 minutes, but you know what I mean), then they hear from the perpetrator on June 21st and can review his file at that time, and then we hear their decision in early July. For our group, first speaker was a retired WPD officer who was present when the killer was captured (he tried to shoot WPD officers at that time), then I spoke, then a KHP officer/representative, then my younger sister, then my dad's widow (my step-mother). My nephew was also with me (my dad's oldest grandson, who plans to go into law enforcement) and he got very emotional when he attempted to try to give any opinions to the board.

They really have nothing that they could tell us yesterday about his chances of being paroled/not being paroled because they aren't given his prison file and background until the June 21st date. They did go over some of the guidelines as to what they consider when they look at parole, and I'm just not sure how he fits within those guidelines, since we can't have knowledge as to how he is in prison.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm glad some of the TV people were respectful and considerate, and I know I wouldn't want to see myself on TV, either. You're very brave. I hope the parole board had open ears for you. I'm sure it's going to be hard until you find out... I really hope they take your request not to have to do this again for at least 10 years.

Farmgirl, I'm glad at least this part is over. And, like ElJay said, I hope the parole board really takes into consideration your suggestion.

It's too bad that you couldn't use the material you were told by the prison guards. Still, with any luck you won't have to deal with this again for a decade. I can imagine that having to go through this every few years would just rip a person's psychic wounds open again and again.

Glad to hear it went as well as it could, under the circumstances.

You did your part. Now you have to wait, which must be torture. (((((Farmgirl))))) I hope and pray the parole board will listen to you on all counts.

Thanks for the update... I hope the parole board does not approve him.
