And I'm taking bids on the rest, no reserve.

*sigh*

I finally finished something. A short story. It isn't terrible, but I feel like crap.

I can't decide why.

Anyway, it's just a first draft, and I have ideas about how to make it better, but suddenly I don't care. Dang my Christian upbringing! Dang it to Heck! [Wall Bash]

Olivia, I'm sorry but I already sold your soul to celia to figure out if I should have gotten a ham or turkey sandwich. It was put to good use, and I greatly enjoyed that sandwhich. Thank you:).

I'm confused about the $25.00. Is it up for auction on ebay? Did you write something to sell? Did you mention family secrets?

Maybe you should have held out for $7.00 more? [Razz]

Livvy, you need to slip into something a little more comfortable. Let your hair down, drink a little wine. Let me rub your shoulders - so.

Are you feeling a little better yet? Here, let me feed you a chocolate...

I have quite the collection of souls. Literally. In seventh grade this guy sold me his soul for a sheet of paper. David Guidry, his name was.

I haven't gotten the $25.00 but I think I still have my soul, too. So that's okay. [Smile]

I feel that my life is complete, having seen someone write the word "wanker" on Hatrack.

It's like a little piece of Australia right on my screen.

Hot damn.

And you paid only $25 for me to imagine that? Dude, I'd have done it for free.

I'm doing it for free.

Alas, 'tis true, I have gone here and there
And made myself a motley to the view,
Gored mine own thoughts, sold cheap what is most dear,
Made old offenses of affections new.

I think all writers do that, Olivia.... sell cheap what is most dear. At least you can feel yourself in good company knowing Shakespeare felt the same way. [Smile]

I often wonder what it must feel like to be the spouse or close friend or family member of a writer, and have one's life and feelings mined for art's sake. Even if nobody knows the exact details, and how it applies to you, if at all, I wonder if it isn't appalling to read intimate details of your experience converted into fiction. How can anyone stand still for that? How can writers themselves stomach it, being "one whose selfish trade it is to keep no beauty to himself"?

So, I finished the re-write on the story, and the editor got it. She's a bit swamped since the co-editor got hit with a deadline of May 3oth that she thought was July 30th (because that was what it had been on her last two contracted books, or something).

Anyway, I'm going to be nail-biting and pining until I hear something one way or the other.

I know how it will go... If I don't make the cut, I'll be sad at not having a publication credit, but I'll be glad to have time to make it better, and submit it elsewhere.

If they want it I will panic and cry over my poor, half-baked baby going out before the world. Gah! The story is a bit purple, but I read over the previous anthologies before I wrote it and seemed to fit. I really just pulled it out of my [ear]. I mean, they said they wanted a story that was xyz, and so I wrote xyz.

But somewhere along the way I became invested in the characters, and I'm torn between being really proud and wanting it published under a pen name, if they want it.

I'm dying here. *writhes with impatience*

My longtime writer-buddy read over it and her response started like this:

quote:
YOU ARE SUCH A WEENIE!
It's cool to have such honest people to *thwap* me when I need it. [Smile] She said my fretting over it was annoying and that I made the story better with the changes I made. And, in short, that my neediness and lack of confidence in my work was beginning to piss her off.

So now I'm coming here to piss YOU GUYS off. [Big Grin]

Because if you can't annoy your 'cyber-family' who can you annoy?

So... now it's time for that hot bath. [Smile]

I mean sponges for scrubbing Livvy! Not those scratchy things you wash dishes with!

These lads have soft sea sponges. They'll lather up her back.

Um, since I know you're all waiting with baited breath for news of my writing career, ( [Roll Eyes] ) I just thought I'd tell you how it turned out.

The anthology isn't publishing after all, and has released the stories so we can shop them elsewhere. My feelings about this are very mixed. It's kind of a niche market and I have no idea where else to send the story, and no real desire to do so. HOWEVER, I finished something. I wrote a short story (albeit a longish one) that SOMEBODY wanted. [Smile]

I'm going back to my summer activities now, and you can all resume your lives, safe in the knowledge that Olivet is still unpublished. [Big Grin]

Oh, for a more profitable way to sell your soul: start taping those "comforting hugs".
