Since a couple of months ago: Rammstein.

I don't know why. I can't understand what they're saying, and translations ( http://herzeleid.com\en\lyrics ) I've seen tend to be...well...interesting.

I bought their DVD and just enjoy everything I've seen.

How bout all y'all?

Maybe this will get me off of my Rammstein craze.

Right this moment, it's Muse. Their singer/guitarist/pianist has an obscene amount of talent and when he turns it loose (on Butterflies & Hurricanes, for example), I'm nearly overwhelmed.

Rush

Except I can't listen to them in the house. My wife says the singer sounds like Satan (I was listening to A Passage to Bangkok at the time). So I showed her a picture of Geddy Lee. Now Rush is banned at the skillery residence.

Ahhh, Indigo Girls. Porter and I are trying to get "Closer to Fine" to performable level. Love the harmony, and the words are so powerful.

King Crimson.

(but I really wouldn't be able to choose, there are so many I like at that level. Including Rush.)

Next question:

Who has seen the band they obsess over in concert? I know I haven't, and am very sad about that.

I know that Rush is coming to NY later this summer.

I would go to see Satan on tour. That would be a moment to remember. [Razz]

Sadly no. Jawbreaker broke up in 1996. I was supposed to see them in Vancouver that April, but they cancelled that show. They only played about 3 more after that.

not a band, but david bowie. i go through cycles with other artists, but david bowie always sits on top.
and i saw him live two? summers ago.

definitely a highlight of my life thus far.
he came out singing my favorite song (life on mars) and he ended with my brother's one request (ziggy stardust).

his voice was a million times better live. extremely powerful.

Tying this into the "any good remakes" thread, Rush has an entire album of cover material coming out this summer.

I have only missed one dallas show since 1982.

HOWEVER

Yes (another band that I absolutely loved, especially the 90125/Big Generator/Talk line up) eluded me entirely until 1997 or 1998. What a show that was, too, with the Alan Parsons Project opening.

And I have seen them in concert; twice at Irish Fest, once in Milwaukee, once in Madison, and I'm looking to see them again next Friday.

2 bands.

BRIGHT EYES

and

AGAINST ME!

and ive seen them both a few times.

i used to obsess over BOY SETS FIRE but have since moved away from them/that. just started to notice some bad business/hypocricy in them.

**note to solo: I've seen Jets to Brazil a few times. i liked them on the orange rhyming dictionary tour, but lat time i saw them was for this most recent album and yea, there were maybe 20 people at the show, including bartender. Blake was obviously bummed and you could tell in his performance. not Jawbreaker. buta s close as i will get to being able to see them.

that is all

Barenaked Ladies and I have seen them probably a dozen times (Baker's in July). I actually don't obsess over their CDs as much (they are good, though) but their live shows are amazing and lots of fun. I really recommend them, even if not completely familiar with their tunes.

For listening around home/car/work, though, I swap around a lot. Latelys it has been The Hives, White Stripes and trying to find more from the Detroit Cobras. I LOVE the garage-y sound right now.

With the qualification that most people consider that I'm way past the age for obsessing over bands, I can easily obsess over U2.

And, yes, I've seen them in concert, during the Zoo TV tour a few years ago. Superb. I nearly got pneumonia from going (it was outdoors in Oakland, CA, in November), and I nearly got trampled while Public Enemy was performing, but it was worth it.

I was trying to remain true to the Floydy goodness, and only post one band... But I just can't do it!

AFI.

(Although I HAVE been obsessing over Floyd since I was about ten, and AFI only since D introduced me to 'em last year. They are both teh awesome!)

Mmmmm, music... [Big Grin]

Do you know why this line up worked? One guy. Trevor Rabin. He left when the group went all Christian rock (which was almost during Talk).

Hey Ralphie! Are you going to the July 3rd showing at Clark County Amphitheater on July 3rd? We were going to see Rush at the White River Amphitheater, but my little brother wasn't happy with the tickets he got so we're going super far south now...email me and we'll hook up for a tail gate party.

I hope you are going to the free concert on the Ithaca Commons. Not that I know what band is playing there or anything, or care that it is my SECOND-to-last day of school, so I can't go.

Ben,

I really like Jets To Brazil too. Sadly, it looks like they too are no more. There haven't been any official announcments but Jeremy Chatelaine seems to be working pretty exclusively with Cub Country and when asked recently about JTB he had no comment. The JTB website hasn't been updated in ages and Jade Tree apparently won't say anything either.

I think it's time for Blake to move on to something new. Or he should start talking to Adam and Chris and get Jawbreaker going again. I know that Adam is up for it, but Chris and Blake had a pretty bad falling out when the band broke up so I don't know if they would be ready to let bygones be bygones. I would really like to see them start up again but only if they really wanted to do it for the sake of making music together, not for the "Filthy Lucre".
