I have to say, it was better than I expected. Has anyone else seen it yet?

And Vin Diesel was much yumminess. But it was a good movie on top of that. Then again, I really love action/sci-fi...

pH,

really? I was baffled by the response to the first film. It was 'ok' but not fantastic, SF, or adventure-wise.

The first one? The characters are what got me. I thought the characters were a lot more three-dimensional than your average aliens-eat-people movie.

what's your "average" aliens-eat-people movie? I thought Pitch Black was precisely that.

ug. I don't get the fascination with Vin Diesel, the Worst Actor Ever. I think I would rather have my eyes stapled than watch this movie.

Carry on! [Smile]

To be honest, I have bad taste in movies, so naturally I enjoyed Pitch Black . I anticipate Riddick as well, and I like Vin Diesel very much, but disliked XXX .

I always thought Vin Diesel would make a cool adult Bean if he could even live that long...

I enjoyed Pitch Black too, but I think Chronicles of Riddick was much better. Judi Dench is always a plus.

Pitch Black was watchable. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. Certainly Vin is a lot of fun in it. As he is in Riddik. That aside, Riddik is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The script was atrocious. You can go if you like, but leave your brain at home. Even that might not be enough.

Vin Diesel was on Leno the other night. The guy has a larger-than-life screen presence and a big, goofy smile that makes him instantly likeable. He was great in The Fast and Furious and XXX, and I'll definitely be seeing Riddick.

I was embarrassed to be the only one in the theatre laughing during Triple-X. I started when the corpse went crowd surfing in the mosh pit, and didn't stop until they rolled the credits. I hope Riddick is just as silly.

Pitch Black was great because it didn't try to be anything more than what it was: a sci-fi suspense movie with a cool anti-hero. It was honest with itself and with its audience (and really, to make your audience believe a premise like that, you have to be honest and without pretensions).

Riddick was pretentious. It tried to emulate the style of Dune and other epics without the accompanying substance. Also, I disliked the part where they completey ignored the events of Pitch Black (Jack grew up to become a hottie badass who looks 24... when she was 12 five years ago? No one ever mentions the captain who gave her life up to save Riddick?).

As both a follow-up to Pitch Black and as a movie on its own, Riddick just falls flat on its face. Even the coolness of Riddick's character isn't enough to save it.

Saw Riddick today as part of a 3.2-feature (don't ask). Was mildly entertained. It was the first movie in years during which I actually felt okay about getting up to go to the bathroom. Granted, I was in pain I had to pee so badly, but still. Normally I just suffer and let the enjoyment of the movie take away the pain of my bladder. Not so much today.

That said, I was mildly entertained. Some of the action was watchable. Some of the costumes were cool. Some of the acting didn't suck. Okay, that last one's a lie, but it sounded good! Basically, I went to see Karl Urban. I have no particular interest in Vin Diesel, in fact I think he's an awful actor. But even I have to admit that that man has muscles on top of muscles and the wardrobe stylists to accentuate them. Oh well. Can't have everything, I guess.

I endured (not watched, endured) about fifteen minutes of Pitch Black. It further galvanized proof that that Vin Diesel is an actor who deserves to take his place with Steven Seagal, Governor Arnie (I wuv to heaw da wammentations of da women), Wham Bam Van Damme, and that clique as one of the worst actors of all time.

My brother and sister in law saw this film Friday night (Harry Potter was sold out and they settled for this). They said that having their tongues cut off with rusty, serated knives would have provided more pleasure.

Yeah...i just saw that..."movie". It was HORRIBLE!!! Really, really, really, really bad. The plot was totally inconsequential. I found myself routing for the evil guy's plot more and more, they werent mindless evil guys, they were lawful evil and mildly entertaining.
I HATED VIN DIESEL!!! GAAAAAH!
The only good thing in the movie were the women. Every women was interesting and acted very well.

I just saw Riddick. It was better than some other movies I've seen and worse than some other movies I've seen. Overall, it was a 2-star effort. But that's okay. It had some cool special effects, Dame Densch is great, as always, and there was at least enough of a plot to support the action, as opposed to just having action sequences unconnected to the story.

Vin Diesel is not bad. I like when he has a cockier attitude, but this worked okay. I thought XXX was actually his best effort to date.

Riddick is okay.

I liked Vin Diesel in Knockaround Guys...

Anyways. The ending kind of bugged me, but I liked that certain things that I was _sure_ were going to happen didn't. I like movies like that.

Actually, I like Vin Diesel in anything. Or nothing. *cough* I saw Triple X the night before my SAT to give my brain a break...it's good for that.

I LOVED the first half with the Necromonger invasion. All of that was great. Setting up the horror of the Necromonger and their wierd blending of technology and spirits...the dread of the people before the invasion...the actual battle itself was great. And I love the architecture of the Necro ships. TOO COOL! And those weird "Minority Report" things in the flagship. Creepy. They almost seemed like they were in charge..giving orders to the Lord Marshal and all.

But the last half of the movie was silly...but still with great special effects, ie The prison planet. I didn't like how Jack turned out. They could have done more or differently with her.

I loved the plotting of the Necro court and you can tell there was more to it.

And what the heck are Elementals?? What IS the Underverse? I smell a sequal... and I guess that's good. I want to know!

I had heard it was the "prequel" instead of a sequel. Which is right? I haven't seen it yet, but would like to and would like to know going in whether or not it is a "before" or "after" pitch black film.

My $.02...

It was mindless fun, if you like Vin Diesel. I find him to be interesting as a reluctant hero. Unlike others, I actually did like the ending, though OF COURSE there'll be a sequel (and I'll probably go see it). I think what you take from a movie all depends on the expectations you bring into it...I had relatively low expectations, and they were exceeded, so I enjoyed myself.

My biggest movie disappointments are when I think I'm really going to enjoy a movie, and it turns out to be...lacking. Van Helsing, for example.

Really? My brother said Van Helsing was good...older brother, that is.

But yeah. I mean, I didn't go into the movie expecting some sort of glorious, life-changing story....but I _never_ go into movies expecting that. What's wrong with a little fun every once in a while?

I did wish they'd done more with the Necromongers and the Riddick/Jack thing. The prison planet was just...so...long.
