First of all, could anyone here get ahold of some of the translations for the Scandinavian stuff? The words I'm looking for here are Hammarskjold and skoldpadda. Can't do the neato accents here, unfortunately.

Second, John Cullen is up to something. He's going to tie in something that we don't know about. King makes a distinct point of Eddie's paranoia about their "little savior," and even ends a chapter with it. He says he's going to stay with a friend of his in Vermont who used to be a guard at the Maine State prison, I believe... Green Mile? Shawshank Redemption? Being that King's novels almost always take place in Maine, it could be anything, or anyone.

Also, 9/11 will tie in. Black Thirteen is put in a locker under the World Trade Center, and here's an excerpt from the book:

quote:
"It's good to go until June of two thousand and two, unless someone breaks in and steals it."
"Or if the building falls down on top of it," Jake said.
Callahan laughed, although Jake hadn't quite sounded as if her were joking. "Never happen. And if it did... well, one glass ball under a hundred and ten stories of concrete and steel? Even a glass ball filled with deep magic? That's be one way to take care of the nasty thing, I guess."

Whether or not 9/11 if fortunate for the ka-tet or not, that remains to be seen.

Last, the todash door. Perhaps Mia will flee into it with Morderd, and reappear somewhere else with Mordred fully grown. The book moves too fast to take a seven year reprieve, but with all the time traveling going on, maybe some other way will occur in which Mordred arrives as a man. But the Todash Door will be used. King makes a point in On Writing: The gun on the mantle introduced in Act One must go off in Act Three.

The 9/11 thing is pretty much a given. Maybe all the suffering from the impact will wake up Black 13 and have it take the people alive when the building collapses through to another world.

Not sure what will happen w/ John Cullen. There were no good guards in Shawshank Redemption, and Green Mile guy is in a rest home, isn't he?

They still need to tie Ralph from Insomnia into this somehow - he supposedly saved someone really important, but we don't know how that worked into things.

I think we need to see the 4 gunslingers in action in one epic battle real soon. [Smile]

I saw the beginning of the Shining on TNT - it looked like Fr. Callahan was serving food in a soup kitchen. Did the series start there and flash back to the real story? Does that mean SK added the Callahan stuff from Wolves of Calla to the story?

P.S., I know it should be obvious from the title, but should you add SPOILERS to it?

You mean 'Salem's Lot, not the Shining right?

The Green Mile takes place in Louisiana, not Maine. Not sure where the present-day rest home is at, but think it was also in Louisiana (or somewhere in the South).
