This week a major Natural Gas Pipeline was planted in the front yard of the building where I work.
The terrorists and others in Iraq love blowing them up there.
If they wanted to do something dangerous in the US, blowing up a gas pipeline might be on there todo list.
If they do, and they choose this pipeline, and they choose the out of way spot near my office, boom, my beautiful windowed office would be the end of me.
I love making big overblown statements out of the minor events in my life, don't I.

I live in Las Vegas. If the terrorists ever again decide to conduct a major strike against an iconic symbol of American power and decadence a la the World Trade Center, my city is one that might be targeted. Granted, I live on the farthest outskirts of the city, but I work closer to downtown.
Then again, even if the terrorists pass us by, when the end of the world finally arrives I'm living in one of the cities that has a great, big red X painted on it with respect to God smiting the wicked with earthquakes, fires, pestilences, burning meteorites or what have you.
So basically, I'm screwed.

Please UofU. Get over yourself. I live right near Disney World. If they're going to blow something up that represents the spread of American decadence around the globe (or at least Paris, Japan, etc.), they're taking out Orlando.
Icarus is so screwed it's not even funny.

I didn't say Vegas was the target at the top of the list, but we're definitely on the list.
If the alternative is to move to Happy Valley, I think I'd rather be nuked here, thank you.
And please; Salt Lake is in no danger from terrorists. However, as it sits right on a major fault, I would say that it's a pretty dangerous place to live, too, since we're talking about hypothetical and farfetched disaster scenarios.

I live and work near Chicago. The Sears Tower is thought to be on the list of terrorist targets. I work about 10 miles away from the tower and live almost 20 miles away.
If they hit it, I'll be OK.
But if they miss, they might hit me at home or at work!

Considering that ElPasoGas made a HUGE profit gouging California through the "EnergyCrisis" because of a shortage caused by sabotage (which took an incredibly long time to repair) on one of their major western pipelines, you should be more worried about Texans with friends in the WhiteHouse than about AlQaeda.

I know Salt Lake isn't in Happy Valley. I was talking about two different things.
I enjoyed living in Salt Lake, despite the faultline. I shudder at the thought of living in Utah County.

--- Wonders when the terrorists will quit trying to target "American Icons" and damage America economically.
There's too many American Icons to obsess over. Now, we're really in danger when they try to disable our entire cell phone network, damage the oil distribution network (worldwide), or use biological warfare. Anyone here heard of that Rift Valley fever? Was I the only one thinking, "I hope no terrorists think about that."
Yet, we haven't had a major attack in America since 9/11/01. Sorry, worrying about terrorists just dropped off my top ten list of things to worry about this week.

No, I think you're reading the "and" incorrectly there. I think he's wondering when they will stop trying to do both of those things, and try instead to really go at our infrastructure or population (at large).
Or maybe I'm full of it.

Living in the Phoenix area means that I get to live near the largest nuclear power plant in the US - Palo Verde. It is also supposed to be the safest reactor in the world - it can withstand the impact of an airplane, which I suppose would make any terrorists eyeing it unhappy.

This is why I miss living in Lubbock... The only possible threat there was being used as a calibration target for American ICBMs (well, if the Democrats were in office at the time that is). No one in their right mind would bother making an example of such a place.
Yeah, now I get to live in the 5th largest city in the US. I'd have to say the threat here isn't the Nuke plant, but the water supply (aka the Central Arizona Canal). I don't really want to know how heavily we rely on that 600 miles of open waterway...

You know, Dan, you don't want to be advertising that sort of thing. Who knows if a terrorist is reading this board???

For a number of years I lived a half mile from the GM Tech Center, and about two miles from what used to be the General Dynamics Tank plant, and the Russians never nuked it. I was especially glad when the Soviet Empire collapsed. Guess I dodged a bullet.

I lived near the largest Naval Base in the U.S. (Norfolk) and D.C. my whole life except when I was in school. I just kind of assumed that I wouldn't have to worry about radiation poisoning, what with being a whisp of hydrocarbons in the atmosphere.

When my mom was a little girl they lived in Alexander City, Alabama, a rather tiny town notable for nothing much except a textile mill. When WW2 broke out, her only model for war was the movie "Gone With The Wind", which the local mayoralty had thought was of such historical importance that they let school out so the kids could watch it when it opened.
Anyway, she was sure the Germans were coming to burn Alex City, the way the Yankees burned Atlanta in the movie. Funny but they never did. But she did watch trainloads of German POWs coming through going to some camps somewhere in rural Alabama. She said they looked like very haunted and sad young boys, as they mostly were.

I said that because it seems like everyone feels like they are near some sort of target. But anyway, I'm really relieved that the Germans didn't burn Alex City after all.

I am devoid of terrorist targets. However, there is a dam, Kinzu dam, that if destroyed, would flood the entire river valley for hundreds of miles downstream from its location, including mine.
Dan,
They are digging gas wells in my rural area, and my neighbor is expecting them to drill 2 or 3 on his property. My property actually had one removed, and I share a gas pocket that they drill on an adjacent property. What this means is that I am getting royalties from the gas company, and can expect more dinero if they build a gas well on my property. I have mixed emotions about this of course.

To the person who thought Lubbock was safe, you actually were living 100 miles south of Pantex. Pantex, located just outside of Amarillo, is the worlds largest plant for assembly and disassembly of nuclear weapons.
As the Russians did not have the technology to disassemble their nukes at the end of the cold war, they were also transported to north Texas for destruction.
I'd say that this has to be a tempting target, bus because of the possibility of spreading radiation.

I work for a government installation which is part of the Department of Defense. The powers that be thought we could be a potential target, so they sent everyone home for "safety reasons." I was called back about an hour later because I was determined to be "essential personnel" -- databases had to be kept up and running efficiently. Ever since then, in my mind, essential = expendable.
