I think we can safely say that the party turned into a grumpy old people of a political party. Its biggest issues at the start was anti-slavery, woman's suffrage and Free Speech. They were built on the whole 'streamline government' thing that the current day crew says they believe. But in reality, they reduce taxes but not the spending. What a difference 150 years makes!
