I mean, I've been a sort of 'manuscript doctor' for some time, doing pre-submission editing for aspiring writers and 'fixing' the odd annual report , etc.
I'm still in a position to be paid by the writers instead of the publisher, but there is no question about whether or not it will be published.

I am not and will never be a Grammar Nazi on this board. Promise. My posts will still be strewn with extra commas, slang and typos, because here, I just let it all hang out.
But, if anybody does have something they want me to look at, I will give you the same deal I gave them. That is, I'll edit a sample for free. That way you can decide if we can can work together, and if what I do is what you think you need or not. A few pages should be enough to decide, then we can go from there. I did some freelance manuscript doctoring in college and found it very depressing - I actually ended up quitting, despite the excellent pay. I really admire anyone who does any kind of manuscript doctoring or editing, but someone who does it for a living, WOW! You rock.

Thanks Mrs. M. But it really depressed me, too. I DID quit, except for a few writers that I really enjoyed working with. And who *shhh* really don't need me as much as they seem to think they do.

Actually, I do. I won't be starting the martial arts book until they finish it, so I probably have a few months before that starts (it will probably come in about the same time the annual report does, natch.)
Send me the first few pages, and I'll show you what I do. With Fiction, my style tends to be a little more inter-active, depending on what the writer is going for. After all, the writer is God, at least as far as a story goes. Even if it's non-fic, I'd love a chance to show you what I can do. An extra set of eyes never hurts, I always say.
