Is Boon's spot still open? How much is the hotel cost?
I haven't found anyone to go to Mexico with me and my mom and I decided it's just too risky for me to go alone. So, I get to eat a $400 plane ticket.
But if I can find a really good fare to Chicago, I am so there... I just need to find out how much everything is going to cost.

Is your Mexico trip with a charter? If it's a regular US airline, you might be able to voucher the ticket for an exchange fee. Usually runs about $100, but that might be better than losing the entire $400.

Annie, I'm sorry about the ticket and the lost Mexico trip. Planning extended trips with friends has its dangers - I did it for Europe and looking back, that was a mistake. Because I wanted a travel partner, she manipulated the schedule and I would have been much better off making my own. I'm sorry about the mess.
On the upside, yay!!! KamaCon!! Does that mean we get Hobbesy too? I'm almost certain there are spaces open - maybe we need a Who's Rooming with Whom thread. I'll see about that.

Actually, the more I look at plane tickets, the less likely it's looking. The absolute cheapest I can find is $450. I'll wait until I hear from my brother on whether or not he gets leave for sure and then try to name my own price at Priceline, but if I can't get it for less than $300 I can't do it.
I don't suppose anyone from way out west is driving?

You know, Annie, you can always come stay with me. We can drive to Nogales, and that's Mexico. You can buy all the Mexican food, paper mache turtles and ceramic parrots that your heart desires.

That sounds fun I do have a ticket to Phoenix, should I choose to miss the plane to Mexico City.
Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions and put-upping-with-me-ness. Right now I'm officially in limbo, waiting to hear from my brother before I can decide anything.
I am, however, leaving for a week of girls' camp leadering on Monday, so I'll have my decision by then.

Are you sure there isn't some way you can get the airlines to transfer part of the Mexico ticket fee to a Chicago ticket? Check with a travel agent (no, don're hire on - just ask) I'm thinking our company has this happen sometimes -- where destinations suddenly change, and the fees are transferred.

It's tougher when you're going through gimmicky discounters, but you should be able to get _something_ out of it. Be firm but polite, ask for managers, hopefully you can beat $297. Either way, hope to see you there Posts: 1839 | Registered: May 1999

one third of the room is about $30.00 a night I think, so under the last plan made U was intending to send Ronnie a check for $100.00 and let her do reservations, but maybe you should speak to her about that.

One third of the $89 is $29.6666666666667. So... $30. Yeah. And maybe if Annie is rooming with us she could do the reservation rather than me since she has actual credit cards that aren't her mom's. I've only got a check card actually in my name.
Oh, and if you could make it down to Salt Lake I saw a ticket for $213.
edit: typed "saw" as "was". didn't know I was dyslexic...

Um... I don't know how much room is on those alleged credit cards in my name.... *angel*
I'll have a concret answer for you by Monday morning, Sarah.
I had another brilliant idea - I could fly to Green Bay and stay with my grandma for a few days before and after, thus avoiding the weekend airplane prices, and then I could just take a train from there to Chicago.
This is, of course, assuming there are trains from Green Bay to Chicago, but I hear they have those in that part of the country.

There are trains from Green Bay to Chicago, but they aren't necessarily cheap. I'd recommend Greyhound, if you're looking to save money.
Alternately, if you can make it to Milwaukee, we'll drive you down. Green Bay's a bit out of the way for a couple with a new baby, though. Posts: 37449 | Registered: May 1999

Well, it looks like instead of letting my brother take leave, they're sending him to Korea again because - hey - he's only been there for two years, why would he need leave time?
So it appears that one way or another, I shall be an official KamaCon attendee. Posts: 8504 | Registered: Aug 1999
