I remember The Greatest American Hero. For the first few episodes, he was named "Hinckley." But then when a guy named Hinckley shot President Reagan, the producers hastily renamed him "Hanley." They already had one episode in the can that hadn't been aired yet with the name Hinckley being spoken, so they re-edited it to have a jet engine rev up (the scene took place at an airport) loud enough to drown out the name so you couldn't hear it. Then in following episodes the name was Hanley. What a fate to befall a superhero!

I'm not sure Superman is the worst, but I agree that he's boring. He's weak willed, and he has every advantage in the world. I love batman, he's smarter and tries harder than the crooks, that's why he's a hero, not some sort of birth defect that let him gain silly powers from a different Sun (like fake, X-ray vision).

Hobbes, you fail to appreciate the true strength of Superman. Besides being the most powerful all-around superguy, his self-restraint was all the greater because he did not become ruler of the world. It's like God. Because He is omnipotent, His greatest power is the power of self-restraint.

I've got to agree with Hobbes. For the same reasoning, I found Rand in Jordan's books (back when I still read them) really boring to read about -- he's not only the most powerful wizard in the world, he's also the best swordsman in the world after a few years? Yawn.

This year there was a class caled Data Management. Everyone called it Data Man. I believe it was only my group of friends who had "Data Man" the statistic-handling superhero.

I've recently thought that a superhero (or Band) should be called Internet Boy. I did a google search for internet boy, and came across a fairly disturbing and interesting article (the first site). But yeah, Internet Boy just sounds like fun, despite the article.

"Spoon!" was (is) the battle cry of the "Tick" - a giant blue nut who fights battles on behalf of justice and has uttered such lines as "Yes, Destiny has her hand on my back and she's pushing!"
I also remember something pithy about Lobster, but I'll have to look it up.

I really envy the fact that Tick's costume is so nice and tight. Everyone thinks I have love handles.

It's almost unfair to compare the heroes and villains on The Tick to others, as they are intentionally whacked. Die Fledermaus, Sewer Urchin, the Civic Minded Five...There are too many!

I actually have a copy of the William Katt/Ben Vereen cast's performance of Pippin on VHS. It's one of the few VHS tapes I own that I think I'll be keeping for a long time, as I sort of doubt it'll be out on DVD any time soon. Anyway, Ben Vereen was in the original cast of Pippin, but William Katt was not. Interestingly enough, the version that I have differs from the original script--in some places it's wildly different.

Though essentially brainless (despite occasional and unexpected lucidity), the Tick is an indestructable force of nature.
Definately not the worst. I mean, we could talk about The Spleen here, but that was intentional. I think that Captain Planet just may be the worst unintentionally lame superhero ever.
I was the lamest superhero ever. What other superhero get carried around in a bucket by a space monkey?
