If there actually are tickets left, they're roughly $60. I am on a very tight budget, but I really, really want to go. I want to go bad enough that I am willing to go alone, but I just can't bring myself to spend the money that I should really hold onto for something more practical.

I'm seeing this, or a version of this. Howard Shore is apparantly in town (Ottawa) during the concerts, but not conducting. I don't care! I'm so excited!
You should go, fiazko. Miss this, and you'll always regret it.

I knew I could count on Hatrack. According to the press release, Howard Shore will actually be conducting, so I guess I shouldn't pass up the opportunity. And I probably will regret it if I don't go...even more than the time I didn't go see Journey, Styx and REO Speedwagon.

I decided on a happy medium. Not necessarily the best seats, but less money. Now I've just got to find something to wear.

Saw Journey at a venue in Central Florida way back when. It was good, but not the be all and end all. 'Course it was a first date with someone I didn't want to go out with, so that may have impacted my reaction.
Jimmy Buffett on stage alone with just his guitar. Now that was a fine thing!

You're going to go, and then you're going to give us an update about how cool it was and how cool you are for going, and then we're going to lynch you in a jealous rage of bloodlust.
Or....we'll be sane and go to http://www.howardshore.com/ to find out when a LOTR Live is scheduled around us...I'm already making plans to somehow be in Seattle on July 16th...mmmm Satyagraha

I am going, and I will give full report. I may even have someone to go with. A girl, but it's someone to talk with about how incredible it was. I already know it will be one of those events that makes me wish I had become a professional musician. *sigh*

Every time I experience something LotR (opening night, extended DVD, etc.) I feel like I'm witnessing history.
The LotR Symphony is awesome, of course, but added to the emotional musical experience was a screen that helped tell the story through the artwork of Allen Lee and John Howe. Simply amazing.
If it's within your reach to get to a performance, I totally recommend it.

Oh, wait. I'll be back in Oregon then. How sad. Those of you who do go will have to give a full and complete report on how awesome it is! If you have an opportunity, you should go!

There are lots of other places it will play. Salt Lake is a pretty good bet, owing to the huge fan base there (biggest line party in the world) as well as the relatively high cultural interest. Abravanel Hall and the Utah Symphony.
If they are doing it at the University of New Mexico, I'm pretty sure they'll do it in Salt Lake.

I'd buy the season tickets for here, but it only comes with the Top of the Pops series. That means eight concert dates with a minimum ticket price of $50 each - and I'd have to get two. I love LOTR, but I just can't do that.
If it plays in Salt Lake, that would...give me a definite date for a trip I probably need to take. My grandpa keeps making sad noises on the phone, and I need to come and visit. Hmm.
Added: Alternatively, it could be an excuse to go to England. *brightens*

So, wow! It was really great. We ended up with amazing seats (2nd tier, front row, middle section on the right side) and could see and hear everything beautifully. The soloists were pretty darn good, the orchestra did a great job (despite Howard Shore's awful conducting skills) etc etc.
The music gives me chills. And I'm a music snob. The music makes me CRY in parts and it's thrilling. So seeing it performed live was like getting to see a dear friend whom you've only been able to talk to on the phone. It was really great, I highly recommend it to anyone.
