Anyway, as a special tribute to all the fantastic Frenchies here that have given me so much help and support (you know who you are ), I shall look at a French work today: La vie est belle by McSolaar.
First, do yourself a favor and "obtain" a copy of it. Then listen. You don't even need to understand the words. The tune is strong, catchy, and powerful.
In terms of content, this piece is standard McSolaar: very dynamic, very pro-peace and all that.
And the best part is, once you listen to it enough, you'll pick up a little French .
Onto English. John Lennon. Sitting here watching the wheels go round
This is a smooth, quick piece. It is a "Be happy, smile, and ignore all pressure!"
My reaction to that message is mixed. If I'm in a bad mood, I'll swear at the song, shouting in my head, "It's okay for you to watch wheels. You don't have to pay bills, don't have to live."
But in a good mood, this song makes you smile .
Onto Don Maclean's (Vincent) - Starry, starry, night.
I didn't review it well last time because I was so horribly depressed . Anyway, what is this song?
It's a solo, accompanied by a guitar and occasional sound effects.
It's very, very basic. And initally that threw me off. And if that was all, I would dislike the song.
But the things that redeems it is the content. It's cryptic and vaguely painful. The singer is eulogizing a dead "Vincent"--who committed suicide.
It makes you think.
Until you find out what the song is really about.
**SPOILER**
Vincent Van Gogh. Though it's amazing that a rock star would eulogize an old artist, the knowledge of what the song is destroys it from within.

My visual arts professor at the U of U, who was voted the most popular professor by the student body on more than one occasion, had a standard slide show that he would present to all of his classes. It was a bunch of slides of Van Gogh's paintings, set to the song "Vincent." He arranged it so that each painting was matched up with the corresponding lyric in the song. It made for an extremely powerful experience. Van Gogh was already one of my favorite painters, but since then that song is also one of my favorites.

Thanks for looking at Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) Phanto.
I'm also glad to see that you have rebounded from your depression. I'm hoping the sun is shining on you today and that your outlook reflects that sunny exposure.
If you would like to look at another song, I would nominate Two Hangmen by Mason Proffit. This song can still give me chills.
Edit to add, Two Hangmen is a classic protest song from 1969.

You want me to review a recent pop song? If that's the case, no I'm not above it but I may be out of sync.
Jason Mraz: Sleep All Day ? I'm also hesitant to step on Phanto's thread. Let's see if he will oblige you.

You wish to ask for permission for me to digest? From whom would you seek approval? One of the old Guts?

Assuming you are around, I had another idea along the lines of Scopatz' pun series. Something regarding current events or geopolitical regional crises. Short-lived. Puns de jour, sorta. Off-cuff, insight. Tantalizing.

fallow, I would suggest we move this to a thread of your genesis rather than highjacking phanto's thread.
I will oblige you with one answer to your question. I would probably refrain from thumbing my nose at the Sudan so as to avoid ruffling Darfur.

. If only. My problems are of a life long nature. I'm formed a new plan to deal with them; it's a pretty strange plan, and we'll have to see how it goes.
For now, I'm no longer in panic mode, but if this doesn't work...well, let's not focus on that *very* unpleasant scenario...
Anyway, I shall get to all your songs once I find a way to get them. For now, my illegal downloading is at an end, but might restart in a couple of days.
Feel free to do whatever you want on my thread, just keep it in decent bounds.
