OK, check out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orson_Scott_Card

My apologies for whoever contributed that picture, but that is not the best OSC picture for the world to see. [Smile] (The famous "o" line from Office Space comes to mind...)

Uncle Orson, will you consider granting Wikipedia the copyrights to a better picture?

***

Is anyone here either (1) a wikipedia contributor, or (2) someone who has copied wikipedia's content for their own use in their website?

Edited to add: If you have written a substantial part of a wiipedia entry, please link it, don't be shy! [Smile]

What are your experiences?

I've contributed a few times, and I have thought about fixing up an image from the book signing and uploading it for that article. A portrait would be better, of course, and I certainly don't have any of those.

I've enjoyed writing things for the wiki. I've only written one or two whole articles out of nothing --most of the time I add a little information or change the wording.

Would you mind linking to the ones you wrote from scratch? I'm thinking of contributing but haven't worked up the nerves to do so.

It would be great to see an example from you. [Smile]

BTW, is it frustrating writing an article that anyone else (be them genius or idiot) can edit?

Things aren't necessarily edited too heavily, and if bad edits are made, they are often changed. Also, the wiki keeps copies of every change made. Vandalism happens (sometimes the entire page is deleted and replaced with insulting or nonsensical text) and this allows it to be repaired quickly and easily.

Here's one I wrote (I'm Quickbeam): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yearbook. If you look at the page history, it hasn't changed much since I wrote it. Another page I started was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_State. Notice that it was pretty short and unimpressive at first, but other people came along and made it much better.

I wrote this entry; it's brief because all I knew about him was his role in context of other people and events. It's unedited, though, and I haven't seen much other elaboration on the subject.

Shigosei, you might want to take the periods out of your links.

[Edit: I should clarify; I mean the ones at the ends of the links.]

Wooo, thanks for the link guys.

The yearbook entry is a major one Shigosei, you should be proud!

Annie, we are going to post our poll result on Wikipedia right? Such valuable insights on chick flicks should not be wasted. [Big Grin]
