The man is a genius. An artist. He always seems to somehow know, before the other player has even hit the ball, precisely where it is going to wind up and where the best place to hit it back to is. He is poetry in motion on the tennis court. He doesn't sweat, and he always looks completely relaxed even when he's making shots that no human could possibly make.

Andy Roddick is good too. Really good. His game is sort of like a piledriver -- he just fires off massive serves and forehands (he currently holds the world record for the fastest serve, at 153 mph) and usually the other player just can't hit them at all, let alone hit them back. But Federer is still better, as today's Wimbledon final showed. He retained his title for a second straight year.

It was a fantastic match to watch, and I'm already excited about next year. Last year's final also featured Federer and Roddick; both are better players this year but Roddick is catching up, so this match was tight. If this keeps up then nextx year they'll be dead even and if they meet in the Wimbledon final for a third year running it will be the best tennis match ever played.

Roddick was gracious in defeat, which was nice, and even dished out a little funny when speaking about the champions' dinner that he will now not be attending:

"I just want to know how long Maria Sharapova's skirt is going to be. Is it going to be short? Is it going to be long? I'm disappointed I won't get to see that. I must just sneak in and crash the party. I'll bring the beer man, let's go."

Too bad Sharapova's only 17. [Wink]

Didn't Federer play Phillipousis in last year's Wimbledon final? I believe Federer beat Roddick in last years semi-finals.

In any case, it was a great match today, despite the annoying rain delays.

Speaking of Federer, he had a huge Olympic upset today. I believe the fellow he lost to was ranked 74th in the world. Then, to make things even worse, the Canadian men's doubles team lost to the French.

Bad tennis day.
