Spring Heeled Jack

I read about this in a history of London and found an interesting website on it.

Predictably, there's also a rock band with this name. ha!

I wonder if he's related to Jack the Ripper. I mean, if you have a 20 year old Spring Heeled Jack, 50 years later, you could have a 70 year old Jack the Ripper. (And, is Jack their form of John Doe?)

Yeah, "Jack" is kind of the default male name for someone "unknown" in England. I don't know if they use "Jack" for dead bodies without ID, but I know that "Jack" or "John" is the name for someone whose name or identity is otherwise unknown and for personifying something...

Jack O' Lantern
Jack of all trades
Jack the Ripper
Spring Heel'd Jack
John Barleycorn

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain,
But it's all right now...

Actually, he's also a recurring villian on The Adentures of Jackie Chan.

Not that I watch cartoon shows like that or anything.

NOpe, not me.

Must have just run across that fact somewhere else. Yep that's it. Found it in a chat room somewhere. I mean I'd never watch those kind of cartoons. They have no educational value, except of course, they did expose me to Spring Heeled Jack, er would have if I actually watched that show but I don't and you can't prove it and even if you did it was my son and not me and I don't care if he's only four and doesn't speak good English, it was him and not me and at least he knows not to speak in ridculously long run on sentences that don't end until the reader passes out from lack of oxygen since they tried reading the whole thing in one breath and failed yet again.

Um, where were we?
