Welcome to Hatrack. Classic rock is great, although I question putting Styx in that category. It's an age thing. [Smile]

I alway say I play at the guitar. Especially opening riffs to classic rock: Aqualung, Satisfaction, Paint it Black, Sunshine of your Love, etc.

Is it really an age thing?

I'm 37 and I consider Styx a Classic Rock Band.

If the 70s aren't classic, what is?

For a car to be classic, it only has to be 25.

Sure, classic, why not? [Dont Know]

I can't believe what people jam into that catagory, but it's so general that anything old enough could fit into it.

It is progressive rock, though. Very poppy progressive, but progressive.

Kind of like a cross between Yes and Hansen.

*shudders*

Yes,I know I'm young and don't know very much about whats "classic" or not but I just go by what they play on the "classic rock" radio station. I live in a one horse town and don't have many options. What can I say but I'm deprived and forced to listen to good music.

Hi, I'm new too but the only people I know here are from Pweb.

And sorry for posting in your thread, HtH, but I didn't want to start my own just to say hi.

So...hi! I've been lurking for a few months now and I decided to just go for it and register; you guys provide me with much of my entertainment...and I mean that in a good way.

Let's see . . . when I was in junior high, Ace of Base, the Spin Doctors, and the Proclaimers were big. Snoop Doggy Dogg (as he was then called) debuted, and Eric Clapton released the acoustic version of "Layla". [Big Grin]

For me, music began in middle school (junior high, whatever). I mean, I listened to music in elementary school, but mostly it was just whatever my mom was listening to. I'm guessing that this phenomenon may be relatively common, though I don't have anything to back that up.

*wonders if this is directed at Helen or me*
*decides to reply regardless*

I first heard of Hatrack back in 1997, when I had to read Ender's Game for freshman English. I was trying to get my hands on anything Ender related. I looked around, but never really got into the site. Then about a year and a half ago, I found the Philotic Web and the forums here were mentioned a few times...so I would lurk on occasion. Then I found myself with way too much free time this summer, and began reading Hatrack on a daily basis and multiple times at that. I was amazed at how close you all seem to be and decided I had nothing to lose from registering. If only I could get over my posting anxiety, I think I'll really like it here. [Smile]

Styx is classic, so I guess I now qualify as classic too. I was a junior in high school when "Mr. Roboto" came out.

Styx is fabulous in concert, but keep in mind that the band that is now touring as Styx is missing one key ingredient--Dennis De Young. There was a major nasty fall out a few years ago and he no longer is connected with the band. So, I guess this band is more "Styx-lite."

Not unlesss you are over 22 you don't....probably more like 28, really, to be old enough to remember...

Star Search!

That is where she debuted, at the age of 6 (I think).

In about 1982......somewhere about then, give or take a year.

When you are as old as I am, one year one way or another doesn't really matter... [Big Grin]

That's a bittersweet memory. [Smile]

Kwea, the dates in your post didn't quite jive with me as I'm pretty sure Britney Spears is not older than I am. A quick Google search puts her birth in 1981 and her Star Search performance in either 1989 or 1992.
