In the past couple days, I have looked at more kitchen/storage furniture (both in person in stores and in catalogs/online) than my poor little head can hold.

So I'm asking for some help. Y'all will have fun with this, I bet. [Big Grin]

The room looks something like this. See the top right corner? Where I have currently placed (in the diagram) a buffet, two pantry/shelf things and a microwave cart? (none of these are labeled in the diagram, but you get the idea). Those are the items I need to decide what to buy.

Specs: that wall is 130" long (or maybe an inch more) and is right next to the door to the hallway. (The second door is to a closet.) I need cabinet space for dishes and pots, lots of food storage (canned goods, dry goods, etc.) and counter space would be nice.

My two leading possibilities at the moment are:
  • six of these, stacked in pairs (probably two glass and four solid doors) and one of these
  • or one of these, one of these, one of these, and one of these.

I think. Do all of those fit? I don't even remember anymore! Help!

(I'm off to work, but I trust that y'all will have some good suggestions for me when I get home tonight. [Big Grin] )

Rivka,
Have you thought of calling a local cabinetmaker (not one associated with a store) and having them come out for an estimate. I've seen a lot of people amazed at how reasonable custom work can be sometimes.

I can't imagine it would be cheaper than these, relatively low-end, cabinets.

Besides, wouldn't those be built-ins? I'm just renting . . .

First cabinet link shows a tall unit with a hutch. No way you could stack those, but I'm guessing that you were intending to show the bottom portion of that cabinet only. And I'm not sure they're stackable per se.

I personally don't care for wire mesh racks, but that's my own opinion. If you were to do the full cabinet that I see on the first link, and create a hole for your microwave's cord, you could probably put the micro on that shelf that shows the two rattan baskets.

WRT the second combination, the trim work on the first piece (the buffet cabinet with hutch) doesn't quite match teh three OSullivan pieces, so if you're planning on putting them all together on the same wall, I would think it would stand out a bit. Width should work with the four together, though, if your specs are right.

And what's that floating out in front of your doors in your room plan?

I'm a little confused. Does you kitchen not have cabinets or just not enough?

I would probably go with the hutch mates - they seem like the most versatile solution. I liked the White Buffet with Hutch, but I don't think it would be enough to store what you need to.

When Andrew and I needed more storage space in our first kitchen, we built a shelf above the sink and put our microwave there. We also got cabinets and bookshelves from an unfinished furniture store and painted them ourselves. We saved a fortune and they had them in every shape and size.

(Also, not to hijack your thread, but do you know where I can get a really nice Shir Hamalos in Hebrew and English online? I've already looked in Mikvah Mall and on eBay and I can't find anything that I like. Thank you.)

Actually, that is two of the units, stacked.

That's a possibility I had not considered . . . *ponders*

Yeah, it's not a perfect match. But I thought if the shortest piece, with the microwave on top, was next to it . . . well, still not perfect, but maybe doable.

*grin* That's the breakfast table. I will probably keep it folded up (the sides fold down), but I had it at maximum extension in the diagram.

Very small kitchen, with very limited cabinet space.

*nod* That's kind of how I'm leaning as well.

There's a window above the sink, and not really any space to put up shelves. I'm also rather wary of anything that might damage the walls and/or cannot be moved out when I do. Assembling all these will be enough work for me, without having to paint, etc. (Actually, I've given serious thought to hiring someone to assemble them for me.)

Let me see what I can find . . .
*wanders off*

MrsM., this is for after the birth? I never knew anyone other than Lubavitchers who did that, but it's a nice custom. [Smile]

Ok, finding it with English isn't so easy. There's this (and they have a whole slew of different ones, but none of the others have English) . . . without English there's lots. I like this one.

That first site is the one you referred to, neh? Yeah, that may be all there is online. [Dont Know]

In the end, I went with the option behind door number one. The order should arrive the Friday before I plan to move in, which works well. Especially if the next-door neighbor is willing to let them in. (I'm pretty sure she will be.)

Thanks for the input, y'all. [Smile]

Yeah. [Smile] It's good advice for when I (please God) eventually do buy a place.

Remind me then, ok? [Big Grin]
