Yay! Just read to my delight that OSC likes the show "Alias" too!! I'm a huge fan myself. Ahhh... it's nice to be obsessed about a good show... Haven't been this into TV since Babylon 5! Long live "Alias"! And season 3 comes out today!!

You know, I'm starting to wonder whether Card has some weird political form of Tourette's. This comment, for example, seemed inserted into what was otherwise a pretty white-bread trio of reviews at random:
quote: To which I would have replied, given the chance, "How can Alias be any good? It's on one of the Big Three networks (ABC, to be exact), which means it has to be offensive to the religious and conservative people while still being utterly devoid of meaningful content."
It's like he doesn't think a column's done until he's found a way to rant.

Ya know, after having watched the remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair," I understand why Pierce Brosnan is fed up with the prolonged silliness of James Bond.
And I'm going to have to think about the "Alias" comment some more. Hmmm.

Did I make any political comments on that thread? I'm not sure that calling a book "crap" is really the same as saying "all books by this liberal publisher are crap."

I just started watching Alias and I'm seriously hooked. It's helping me get through all of the huge, stressful events that are happening at the same time (which always happens to me).

You made a sweeping generalization about the state of American readers and literature, far more than was needed for the immediate discussion. Seems pretty similar, if different in actual content.

Ah. I maintain there's a distinction. If OSC had said something like "'Everyone Loves Raymond' remains inexplicably popular," I wouldn't've commented on it; that's perfectly within the realm of typical criticism. Saying "'Everyone Loves Raymond' remains popular with the champagne-guzzling Volvo crowd due to its flaunting of common morality" is a different argument.

Alias is awesome!! A few months ago, a friend lent me the first season, and I watched it within a couple of days. The night I finished it, at 2 am, I went to Walmart to buy the second season because I just couldn't wait till the next day to find out what happened.

I have been anxiously awaiting the third season to come out since I watched the first season last January. I am disappointed that the fourth season doesn't start till January.

Hasn’t OSC stated that his approval is apparently a death-knell for a TV show – everything he likes is cancelled? I’d be hesitant to rejoice about his expressing approval of your favorite show . . .

Now if only, if only somebody would make him watch Firefly. Hey, it's not like his approval could be the death knell for that *grumblegrumble gorram fox grumble*

I was going to post something like, "Well I hope OSC doesn't like X" when I realized there's no show on the air I actually care about right now.

The only show currently on that I care about is Megas XLR. Given how frivolous it is, OSC is not likely to get behind that one.
I used to care about Boston Public, but then they moved it to a new time slot where I could never find it. I think it's since been cancelled. I've heard good things about shows that are (I think) still on, like Alias and Joan of Arcadia, but I'm never sure when they're on, and I get the feeling it's too late to get into them without being completely confused about what's going on. So maybe it's just as well my TV is almost always turned off.

So I'm the only one who was disgusted by the second season of Alias? Halfway through it some idiot decided to pull a wrath-of-God bit, and from then on the plot was insufferably corny and the actors awkward and melodramatic.
The first season was great, though, at least the first time around.
