Although, by definition, wouldn't men have to become menstrual at some point in order to suffer from PMS?

If we follow the American study--no you do not have to become menstrual. You just have to qualify under any or all of the above mentioned categories.
See, now you have a real excuse for being grumpy. Just not PMS.

Why shouldn't we snort with cynicism--men have snorted at us for centuries.
"It's all in your head, dear." "Stay in bed and for heaven's sake--don't write!"
All this being said, I do have to give credit to someone for having the moxey to do a study like this and actually share his findings--even if they are rather---uh---oh hell---
SNORT!
Of course, all of this is written with the greatest of respect for you Mr. P.
Much love to all men---really.

Maybe they should reevaluate their findings then. Afterall, they didn't say all American men. m_p_h may be the factor that changes everything!

It seems that what they are describing that some men experience is missing a very important thing that PMS has (besides menstration): a schedule. Isn't that why PMS is to be feared (or mocked) -- because it comes back month after month. Saying that some men sometimes experience these symptoms is a far cry from saying that they experience something akin to PSM, IMO.

What I really wonder here is why people want to say that men suffer from this anyway? I wouldn't wish PMS on a man I hate.
Also, why do we have to label every single "disorder" in the universe. Can't we be satisfied that all people have some sort of problems and that's part of what makes us interesting and --gasp--human?
Mr.P--I hope you didn't take my mockery the wrong way. I just thought the article was hilarious.

I don't think it's stupid. Excess fat accumulation produces marked hormonal differences. Most causes of excess fat are also hormonal in nature. Even if you think it's plain old overeating, that also comes about through biochemistry. From a rational standpoint, who would consistently eat so much as to shorten their lifespan?

I can see your point, Pooka. I would point out, however, that most people are really, truly irrational creatures (myself included). We do many self-destructive things, even when we know we shouldn't. So biochemistry might have a part in it as well as what ever it is that makes our mental and spiritual beings function. I think it takes all three parts to make this stuff happen.
We are such complex creatures that it's hard to really know why we do the things we do to ourselves. That's part of what makes us very interesting, and fat, and lazy and have PMS.

Fat in particular produces estrogen, and estrogen is an testosterone agonist. Men lack a lot of other things that would make the cycle go around, but stresses (inducing cortisol, which interacts with the whole mess) are cyclical. Most people's rent or mortgage is due at the same time every month, for instance.
