If Dagonee is a liberal, there's nothing left but to go feel blue.

Nah, I think I need to start my own cabal. Y'all are way too moderate for me.

And to be fair, BC said I have converted from being a liberal to being a conservative. Which is actually a pretty frightening thought, even to me. [Big Grin]

I do too. And they ARE fairly liberal. One of my friends is a former Jesuit. He left before taking vows in order to marry his best friend. Very awesome guy.

Catholics in general are middle of the road weirdos that neither party can really depend on for the vote. One year they fall in behind JFK, the next they love Reagan. This year they voted about 50/50 for Bush. So, it doesn't suprise me that Dagonee, as a good Catholic, would not obviously be either liberal or conservative.

Also, aren't there a lot of 'conservative' Catholics who, like, blame Jesuits for liberalizing the Catholic church, and causing its decline and for many of the current abuses?

(Sorry to derail the fluff thread.)

There's an ancient Jesuit nun who teaches Ethics and Morality in the English department at our university. She's fiercely academic and a very very interesting and awesome person.

I was sure she was jesuit, but her bio just says Roman Catholic with no further specification.

Either way, she's an amazing woman: Sister Veronica Brady.

One of her papers.

My folks are from NY and our parish let a Jewish congregation use space in our building for a year when their synnogogue burned down. So we got very cool tours from the Rabbis as part of our pre-Confirmation classes. I still remember some, apparantly.

degel just sounds way too much like kegel which is too close to something like work . . . I'd be mighty suspicious myself . . .

On the other hand, I am shocked, just shocked, Dag, by your new status . . . what's the world coming to? [Evil Laugh]

We participated in a Seder when I took my course on the Pentateuch in college.

It was so cool. Especially seeing how catholicism tied in with judaism.

Anyway . . . [Evil] what's wrong with kegels?

it can actually be tough to nail many people's political stances on a message board...since many people are all over the map if you hit the right issue.

Many acquaintances of mine think I am rather right wing (a card carrying member of the religious right)...however, there are many issues where I sharply deviate from the republican party (for example the death penalty). Also, many times when I side with the actions of the party...but I have different goals. For example, in Iraq, I think liberating the people from Saddam was far more important than the whole WMD thing that Bush pushed. Personally, I think that the crimes Saddam committed against his people should have been enough for the entire UN to step in.

Neither party would like my idea of education reform or welfare reform (those on the right think it is too liberal, and those on the left would think it was right wing).

My guess is Dag is the same way…many of his ideas seem to lean to the right, but he is able to make up his own mind on issues.

Frisco averages out to be a Moderate. [Big Grin]

There are few people on the board that fit perfectly into the "liberal" and "conservative" labels, Frisco thinks, and Bean Counter will surely learn that when the bug up his ass crawls out.

Shigosei wants to know if this is another third-person thread.

Shigosei's family seems to think she is a liberal. Shigosei's friends seem to think she is a conservative.
Therefore, Shigosei is a moderate, or just likes to argue with viewpoints she knows people hold for the fun of it.

Anyone who even thinks Dagonee might be a liberal needs to pay more attention. Reasonable and articulate conservative =/= liberal, sorry.

Just remember, I'm Head Minion (is that too presumptious?) of the Dagonee Not-So-Secret Dagal. Be forewarned, it is not an easy mantle to take on, being one of Dag's groupies.

I'm mean there are the ipso factos, quid pro quos, and don't get me started on all those habeas corpuses!

Dags, do you really want to suggest halvah in lieu of fruit? Fruit is soft and squishy -- messy, but unlikely to cause a concussion. A brick of halvah could really do some damage.
