The high school where I student teach has received three emails throughout the last week, threatening some sort of terrorist activity. The first two were pretty similar and stated that it was a warning, we should evacuate the students etc. School was closed on Friday while the bomb squad came in and searched the place. Nothing was found (though they did blow up a suspicious beeping backpack that turned out to have a stopwatch in it.)

Yesterday was a teacher work day and they had a meeting for parents to attend where many concerned parents were wondering WHY they hadn't traced the emails. That's been turned over to the computer forensics department at the local sheriff's office. (Rumor has it that Yahoo is not cooperating in giving out information, but I don't know if that's legit.)

Oddly enough, ANOTHER threat was received by the administration right before this meeting. I've read the email and this one was different in that it was extremely graphic and involved more threats than just bombs. There were threats that the staff would all be shot, that kids would be kidnapped and held hostage...it wasn't pretty. This email claimed ties to Al Quaeda and was pretty bizarre.

The school has decided that things should run as usual (I tend to agree with them. There has been no evidence of anything, we've got cops all over the place and the sheriff's dept. has put out a $5000 reward for information leading to the perpetrators.) This morning they had an assembly where they informed the kids of exactly what was going on. The news had hyped up a lot of stuff and the administration set the record straight.

Anyway, I don't know why I'm writing this, but it does seem very bizarre. If it's a student, they'll deal with it accordingly. But what if it isn't? There's always the chance...and it's made us a little nervous.

So now I have to watch the news for the election results and to find out if they've figured out what's going on here!!

Either way it's bad news. I hope that it's faux and that it's some stupid "copycat" attention wanting kids. Be safe and be alert.
