It’s freezing in here and I’m wearing sandals. Sunday morning I had to actually turn the furnace on. How did autumn sneak up on me like this? What happened to summer?!?
*sigh*
Also my garden froze on friday night, with over a hundred tomatoes unpicked.

Oh yeah, three days ago I was walking around in my T-shirt, and now Montreal starts to look more like late fall/early morning in my home town... And I heard it only gets worse...

The weather changed really quickly, didn't it? Here, it's still pretty nice during the day, but oh, it is cold in the mornings! Not to mention dark. I hate having to leave the house before the sun has risen.

Hey now, the weather is finally getting perfect. None of this over-70-degree crap from any of you! Mid-50s for a high is the place to be!

Carrie, I am so with you. I come alive in the fall. Cool and crisp is the way to go. And that October light...

*giggle* dkw, I spent a half hour picking tomatoes last night just to avoid that problem. Know any good green tomato recipies? We're putting them in a closed paper bag in hopes that they might ripen, but I'm not so sure.
Put some socks on silly girl and cuddle up with a book, a blanket and a cup of tea.
Or better yet, get yourself a little'n. They make fantastic heat generators.

Christy -- you can throw a really ripe banana in the bag with the tomatoes to help them ripen. High production of ethene gas or something.

Yeah, I usually enjoy winter the most, myself. Unless it rains ALL winter, like it does some of the time (if not all of the time) here in Oregon. Actually, spring starts off the worst for me, and then the year gets progressively better until winter.

It is finally beginning to cool down in Vegas, too. We're getting into the second best time of year, the first being around March/April. I was actually able to go for a hike up at Red Rock Canyon in the middle of the day last Saturday without burning to a crisp.

Best way to handle unripe tomatoes: (sound advice from the Land of the Early Frost)
Pick the whole vine, and hang it upside-down in a cool, dark place like... well, a root cellar. Or the pantry, I suppose.
The tomatoes will continue to ripen naturally for weeks, and you don't have to deal with them all at once.

you're in Montreal?
if so, you heard correctly: Montreal is COLD come Febuary... invest in many layers of warm clothing as soon as you can, it'd be terrible if you froze to death

Cold - heh. My poor little Moroccan friend came to class all bundled up the other day. "I cannot believe how cold it gets here!" she said. if she only knew....

It's strange, but many of my strongest, happiest memories are of times I was very cold. Anyone else?
Heh. I met my husband on a January night in Vermont. It was mighty cold, well below zero. He had long undies sticking out from holes in the knees of his jeans. I thought he was the hottest thing since molten lava, and still do.

Yeah, Dragon, Montreal... But if all goes well - or not, I guess - I'll be out of here by the end of December. I'm an exchange student here for only one semester, so afterwards it's back to France!
