I didn't agree with about 95% of his philosophy, but I had a lot of respect for him. Anyone else familiar with his work?

Basically, (and this is very basically) he was the originator of decontructivism. The premise of his thought was that there are several meanings that can be taken from a piece of literature or art, and that they're not neccessarily those intended by the author.
