OK, anyone here discussing music later than 1750 is getting off topic.
I wanted how're Mark's and John's Passions by JSB? I heard that John's isn't as good as Matthaeus's, but I never quite listened to it (unlike the Mass in B Minor, one of my favs if you exclude BWV 140)... Any comments?

I grew up hearing the St. Matthew Passion and it's still my favorite. I heard the Passion according to St. John done last Easter by the symphony here and it was amazing. I was very powerfully affected by it. Musically I can't say until I've listened to something at least a dozen times, but I certainly would recommend giving it a listen so you can decide for yourself.
My favorite of all time is B Minor Mass, too. I love the first Kyries and the Kristi, and have for years. Lately the thing that grabs me the very most is Qui sedes ad dextram Patris. However this whole work is amazing, perhaps the pinnacle of the music generated by western civilization so far.

I don't think there's any Bach I don't like. But, I've not ever really compared the Passions. I'm more of an organ fugue girl. So, I'm not really any help, but I had to stick my nose in anyway, because for heaven's sake, it's a JSB thread!
