This may not be a good time to post this. I realize it will be totally insignificant compared to what you are otherwise thinking of. But on the other hand that might be a good thing… So:
I have been a member here for some time now, but I haven’t felt confident enough to introduce myself. I’m going to correct that now, because I’m starting to see that it’s the (only) polite thing to do.
My name is Berit (pronounced Bear-it), I’m female, 39 (as of a few days ago, my birthday is on Halloween) and living in Norway. I’ve been working as a teacher for years, and currently I’m trying to get my degree in Applied Linguistics. I have a fourteen year old daughter from a previous relationship, I have spent eight years as a single mother and is now living with my very significant other and his two sons. We’re not yet a big, happy family, but we’re working at it

90 % liberal on the political test
INFJ on the personality test
35 % (or points) on the geek test
My first book by OSC came to me quite accidentally. Visiting a bookstore in search of something new I found “Seventh Son”. I read it and wanted more, so I checked regularly for new sequels and eventually other books by OSC through my bookstore. I came upon Hatrack.com around ’97, but never thought to look for a forum or anything beyond new releases. That didn’t happen until last year, when I was rereading “Shadow of the Hegemon” at the same time as USA was invading Iraq. Suddenly I felt the need to know what OSC thought of the war, and through links to Ornery and Hatrack forum I found one of his War Watch essays. I read, was rather shocked, and signed up with the intention of writing a brilliant analysis, contrasting the war against Iraq with the political situation in the book Luckily I lurked for a few days and found that my initial reaction was old news, that members at Hatrack were capable of brilliant responses to brilliant analyses and that the forum itself was more interesting than what any single person might think of the war.
Mostly I’ve been lurking, venturing forth now and then. I don’t think that I will ever be a frequent contributor. At this pace, my first landmark thread will be written around 2028. There are so many things I don’t feel I can comment on when I don’t live in the same country as most of you. The fluff threads are kind of off limits too, as I haven’t developed a relationship with anyone. Besides, I’m six hours ahead of Hatrack time, and much of the interesting stuff here seems to be happening when I have gone to bed. Let’s say that my goal for my membership is that I can one day post a welcome to a newbie without fearing it might raise eyebrows

Trondheim, I've noticed your posts often enough that when I saw the title of this thread attached to your name, I thought you were introducing a friend who was going to be joining us. Was surprised to look at your post count... we started about the same time, so to me you've always been here and just don't post often. While I'm sure it's easier to form relationships when you're in the same timezone as other people, I hope that's not a requirement. Glad to hear some more about you.

I was going to ask if you lived in Trondheim. My family lived there a long time ago (they came to the US in the early to mid 1800s, I think). I'd love to visit Norway (and Trondheim) some time.

Hey, Dagonee, it must have been in recent pun threads. That’s the only way you could have noticed me (because I’ve stayed out of everything else for some time). I love puns, but it’s infinitely more difficult in another language.

Trondheim..."welcome" doesn't quite suffice here. I've enjoyed your posts in the past. I think it'd be nice to have you around more.

Okay, why is it so easy to remember how to spell Trondheim and Berit? Are they names constantly repeated in Norse mythology? Or do they have a historical significance beyond Norway?
