I caught a film on the Sundance Channel last night called Bush's Brain and missed the beginning, but what I saw led me to conclude that Karl Rove is more than just the "Architect".

Evidently, there is a book out there with the same title as the movie, but I have not read it yet.

[grin] True. What is that old adage? Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts...absolutely?

Exact wording of the quote (I used to get this wrong):

quote:
'Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.' -- Lord Acton
*shrug*

It's hard to have absolute power in a system like ours.

But then again, one can become corrupt without obtaining anywhere near absolute power. [Wink]

(I have high standards - I refuse to become corrupt for anything less than absolute power. Then all bets are off. [Razz] )

If you get a chance, you should try to catch this film on Sundance. Very interesting material.

Yea sure! Make us seem crazy pix! Try to discredit us! It will just make the look on your face all the sweeter during your anal probing.

"I dunno. Karl Rove could do a lot of good in the world if he wanted to. That kind of power comes with a responsibility that Karl Rove takes great pride in ignoring."

As much as I dislike Bush, I have much respect for him as a leader. (this is hurting me) He chooses very bright, effective people, and trusts them to do their jobs. They do them. I may not like what he does, but I cannot deny that his means are extremely effective.

How is it tinfoil hattery to point out that the guy who ran GWB's reelection campaign was very effective?

Karl Rove is freaking evil. There's an online article off The Atlantic site that details some of hiw known crap, and it just boggles your mind.

"If he decided to be good instead of evil, he could advance the Republican agenda AND make the world better..."

I submit that these are contradictory goals.

Tom, the election got you down?

You can disagree with the methods, but I think the stated goals of both parties run on the noble side.

Of course not.

But if Rove used his powers for good instead of awesome, and he defined good by the stated goals of his party, that would be not bad. [Smile]

Did anyone watch Karl Rove on Meet the Press last night?

I always impressed when I see Rove speak and answer questions. He is much quicker and has a greater command of the system than any of the candidates. Even Tim Russert didn't get to go after him on something. He builds his own bullet-proof box around himself when he answers. The man is good. Very Good.

Ah. But, see, the Republican agenda is not merely their stated goals, but also the means they've advanced for reaching those goals. I do not believe that the means advocated will be effective at achieving the goals presented.

He's great at advancing his own agenda, but does so by being unfaithful to the truth. As a result, I don't think he's very effective. He may win more elections in the short term, but in the long term pursuing this sort of route will eventually lead to disaster - for which his agenda will inevitably be blamed.
