First, I'll give you an unrelated Funny:

http://www.theforce.net/holonet/newspics/target/heidarth_genvir.mov

Now, for my strange tale.

Went to the studio for some alone time with the great Lady AVID, which is kind of like giving a girl with a new-minted learner's permit the keys to ... er, some really high-performance car.

Anyway, I get there early, and the Turner people are still in the AVID suite(Turner Network people often use the large AVID suite to do ... stuff. I guess when you have a $100,000.00 system, you don't keep it to yourself when you charge other people to use it), so I wait in the studio's really cool lobby.

There's a guy cleaning and several people coming and going. Many of them speak to me casually while I use the time to make nots of things I need to do to move my various projects forward (like a good little high-functioning wannabe [Wink] )

Then this guy stops and asks me my name and why I'm there, so I tell him. I've seen him around the studio before as come and go to class, etc. He's really chatty and I wonder if I know him, but then he goes away, and one of the nice ladies tells me the AVID suite is now ready for me and that Jesse (the studio's recent SCAD graduate and current slave-laborer, who looks to me like he's twelve but is super nice) will be around to help me if I get stuck.

Cool. So I get started on scene one. Really I'm just playing with it, since I was happy with what we did in class on that one. Chatty guy come into the suite and sits down in one of the comfy chairs behind me, and chats some more. I ask his name since he already knows mine, then I ask him if he works there. He was one of the owner's production managers for five years, still does some work for him, but now he's more freelance, doing music videos and such. Makes sense, he's dressed like a music business guy, mostly business casual with a leather jacket.

He's drinking beer from a bottle, and watching me mess around with the AVID. He asks questions about the class, and whether using the AVID is part of the class. I tell him we did an edit as a class, together, but that we're allowed to schedule some time to play after business hours just for the experience, and that I'm anxious to learn. Couldn't pass up an opportunity like that, you know.

We talk a while longer, and the next thing I know, he's giving me his card and telling me to contact him, that they could use me as a PA the next time they go into production on something.

I flip through the dictionary of film acronyms in my head and realize he means Production Assistant. He's offering me a job!?! Cool. PAs are basically general gad-abouts and gofers, and I bet they're paid jack, but I could learn stuff. Seems cool. We talked for maybe ten minutes and he left.

I ask Jesse for help a couple of times, and the second time he starts adding additional audio tracks and another video track and I get totally lost.

Somehow he's fiddling with my scene, trying to make the audio synch up with the video, when it is the audio that originally was recorded with that video. I have no ide how he got it out of synch in the first place. GAH! So I politley ask him to remove everything after my last good edit, and let me start over from there. *g*

"I have no doubt that you know exactly what you're doing, but I have NO IDEA what you are doing. You have other work to do and we both need to go home eventually, so put the training wheels back on and let me get my knees scraped." *big, friendly smile*

He laughs and we are best buds by the time I leave, which is just after 9pm, right on schedule.

My edit blows, but that's okay. I learned a lot. Jesse was sweet and likeable, like cocker spaniel. A Cocker Spaniel that can edit rings around my sorry @ss, but you know. [Wink] I'm gonna bake him cookies for all his help.

Now I'm wondering if the music video guy was coming on to me. I didn't really get that vibe at all, and Ron thinks it could be a good way to get some experience in how things are really done.

In any case, isn't it odd to have people offer you jobs with no real warning? I was wearing jeans and my ratty yellow rain jacket (not The Boots, BTW).

I'm probably being paranoid, but I think I may be developing that ... thing that my mom always had that made people like her. Pheromones or something.

Next week is the last class. I have a list of questions a mile long.

Sounds like he was more likely simply enjoying your enthusiasm for something he has been doing for a long time. Would explain both the job offer and the wanting to watch/help.

Sounds like it's been a great experience for you, Olivet! [Smile]

Things are going so well, I almost fear what happens next. I'm almost done editing that Martial Arts book, which should earn me enough to either pay for my film class or buy me another one. [Big Grin]

Everything's roses. I had a cold, but it's better now. Robert got named Terrific Kid for the month of November. Liam is doing stellar, sight reading some and copying letters all the time, trying to make words.

Ron's work is pouring in... It's all good.

Thanks rivka! [Smile]

I talked it over with Ron, and he's all for me doing some PA work if we can manage any childcare issues. I don't think it will be an issue since they aren't actually 'in production' very often. Plus, I probably won't want to do it too much anyway. There's probably only so much a person can learn from fetching coffee and making notes during a production.

The guy's name, which totally escaped me last night, is Todd. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this. It seems like a great opportunity to learn.

I talked it over with Ron, and he's all for it. I know it sounds silly, but we made the promise long ago to safeguard our marriage as the highest priority. We don't watch movies that make adultery look positive, etc. I always try to make certain he's comfortable with whatever relationships I have with men.

It really has more to do with Ron and me than it does with men falling all over me [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin]

Ron is usually suspicious of any fellow I have dealings with, because he loves me so much, he just can't see that other men don't find me as choice a cut of meat as he does. *giggle* That one OSC signing I went to, years ago now, he asked me if I had a crush on 'that writer'. *snort* "No, honey. I really just want to hang out with Anne Kate." [Wave]

So, it's eitehr paranoia or vigilance, depending on your point of view. I AM a little too suspicious sometimes, but only because it's easier for me to be suspicious up front than to have my beloved be suspicious later. At least he no longer thinks I'm naive. [Smile]

"No, honey. I really just want to hang out with Anne Kate."

This may not help, depending on the husband and the women involved. [Wink]

'Cause, you know, it couldn't be because you're gorgeous or anything.*

*Not that I'm saying that this guy in particular was coming on to you--just that I don't think you need to look to pheromones for why guys would pay you extra attention.

*whispers to Noemon* Check's in the mail, buddy. Thanks a lot. */whisper*

Tom, the story of what finally eased his mind about that outing is a funny one, but I think it would be impolite to share it here. Wouldn't want to insult anybody.

O_o

Looks brand new, or nearly so.

Small potatoes, or at least New Potatoes.

Perfect. [Smile]
