When I am feeling utterly overwhelmed by the amount of work I have hanging over my head, it's amazing what a small victory will do to boost the spirits.
For example, I am in a class that involves some programming-like activities and is, to put it mildly, frustrating. The reasons are too numerous to get into, but suffice it to say that the professor, while a nice enough fellow, is pretty much oblivious to the frustrations of students in his class.
I'm starting to work on my final project for the class, and I met with him today to explain what I thought I would do. He said it sounded interesting, gave me a few suggestions, and told me to go off and do something that would "take a few hours at least!"
I finished it in 15 minutes. Booyah. I am feeling...what's the word?...oh, right...SMUG.
Anyone else have any small victories to share? Come in and be smug with me! Yay!

I gave an hour long presentation today in front of the most hostile audience I've ever faced. There was a kind of startling ferocity to their questions that really took me aback. I didn't let it show, though, diffused their hostility with humor, and answered all of their questions thoroughly enough that they couldn't find any holes to pick at. That was pretty satisfying. I find that I really like public speaking, even (or maybe especially) when there is an adversarial edge to it. Go figure--I wouldn't have guessed that.

My boss wanted a new picture for our intranet site. He always complains about how fat he's getting, and he just stopped smoking after about 30 years. I really, really didn't want to listen to him angsting about how bad the pictures looked... when he looked at them on the camera, he was all fussy. I said I'd download them and send them to him, that they'd look better big.
I removed his double chin and whitened his teeth before I sent him the picture. I thought about darkening the gray in his moustache too, but decided that would be overkill. Sent it to him and asked if it was okay, he said sure, and up it went. No hassles for me, the pic looks a lot better, and he'll never know the difference.
*whistles* Situational morality works for me!

I registered for orientation at college! And, started making plans for classes to register for - until my twins are in school I'm limited as to what times I can go, but there are about six or seven Saturday classes that I need, so that works out well. With luck, they won't all fill up before I can register for them!

In my criminal procedure class, the professor messed up the dates in the hypothetical we're using for our mock trial. One of the defendants is only charged with crimes that were committed 5 years ago, which puts them outside the statute of limitations. So the "defense attorney" filed a motion to dismiss on those charges.
The crime is failure to file a report of a currency transaction over $10,000. I dug through the regulations and found out that these reports have to be kept on file for 5 years, which means the crime wasn't completed until 2 months ago, which means the defendant is back in court.
I'm not sure it's a winning argument, but at least I don't have to concede the motion.

I passed the certification test that I *had* to pass on this second attempt (I failed it last Thursday) or be sent back to class. On the modules where it mattered (to me, anyway) I got full 100%'s. On the other stuff, I got through it enough to get an overall score of 89.3%. Nothing to brag about, but I'm relieved. I've been sweating this stupid test for weeks.
And I'm making beef stroganoff for the first time. Smells so good....
edited to add that I'm now home enough that I can read to my children again for bedtime. I picked Ender's Game for my son and he is *loving* it.
