Yup. I said it. I know you were all thinking it, and now it's out there. If there's anything at all you want to know, chances are it's been discussed here. And if it's not, just start a new topic-the experts will weigh in!

(Thank you, Beatnix, for asking about DVD burning/encryption last July, and slacker, for posting links to DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. You saved my bacon!)

I think the funniest thing is that I truthfully do rely on Hatrack to give me all my news -- entertainment, politic, or otherwise.

For instance, I overheard someone saying at work that Eminem had been attacked and/or injured at the Rap award show. I told this to Strider, and he said "no, that couldn't be true...it wasn't on Hatrack."

based on that assertion, I didn't investigate any further. For all I know the boy could be dead, but because nobody talked about it here... [Big Grin]

I'm often surprised at the news pieces that *don't* get brought up here. That's why I started posting the interesting science and technology articles, but I only post a tiny fraction of the articles that I read.

I do love, though, how we seem to have experts for every conceivable question here. No matter how off the wall you're question, there is usually at least one person who can give you an intelligent, well informed answer.

I must admit that once when some point about Hinduism was being discussed, and a new user with an obviously Hindu god derived name posted a response, and then never posted again, I suspected that it was Tom Davidson wearing a different hat. The thread would have disappeared years ago or I'd try to find it and link to it. I'm not quite sure *why* I thought it was Tom, now, but at the time I was highly suspicious.

I know a *little* about Hinduism. But that's based on having Hindu kovils all over the place here. Well, 14% of the population here is Hindu, so it's kinda everywhere. . .

I do get my news from Hatrack.

Problem is, I still read the regular paper (complete with sci/tech news), but I come to Hatrack before I check the news. So by the time I get to the news, it's old.

Ah well. I like the commentary here better anyway.

It always amuses me how often I will hear about something here, and then hear about it from others a few days later as though it was current that day...Hatrack really is the news centre for finding about things fast, and as a bonus you get a dozen opinions with it

It's funny how often people have acted very impressed at how current I am at something or another (music, for instance) due solely to what I have heard discussed or recommended on hatrack.

I think because of hatrack I'm much more a citizen of the world, too. I think somehow in the last 7 years I have picked up a completely global outlook here, which is odd considering we are mostly from english speaking countries (with many notorious exceptions, of course (waves to Eduardo)). Still, a hatracker is a citizen of the galaxy, you know?

I don't stay current anymore mostly but I know that's still true.
