AFI top 100 to show the money quotes

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movies/11/17/film.quotes.ap/index.html

quote:
The quotes range from the first full sound feature film with Al Jolson's "Wait a minute, wait a minute. You ain't heard nothin' yet" from 1927's "The Jazz Singer" to creepy creature Gollum (Andy Serkis) hissing "My precious" in 2002's "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers."
quote:
Chosen from 400 classic lines of dialogue, the winners will be revealed in the CBS special "AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movie Quotes" in June.
My favorite quotes have come from one of the most entertaining movie trilogies out there: Back to the Future.

Doc Brown to Marty McFly…
quote:
...we're sending you BACK... to the future!
And a dialogued quote…

(The Doc Brown explains to Marty that what he does in the past (1955) can affect his alternative future for 1985. And Marty shows his sentiments with 80’s teen slang.)

Marty: This is heavy, Doc.
Doc: Weight has nothing to do with it.

(Moments later both of them realize that Marty’s time-travel endeavors results in Marty’s mom having a crush on him.)

Doc: It seems that your mother has become amorously infatuated with you instead of your father
Marty: Woah! Wait a minute, Doc! Are you saying my mom has the hots for me?
Doc: Precisely!
Marty: Woah, Doc, this is heavy.
Doc: Heavy! There's that word again! Is there something wrong with the gravitational pull of the Earth in 1985?

Any other favorites out there? ;D

Here's my personal favorite:

"But what does it do?"
"It doesn't do anything. That's the beauty of it!"

[Evil]

Thanks - great thread topic! [Big Grin]

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did. But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!"

saxon75 wins.

However, I would like to add my own favorites:

quote:

Home. I have no home. Hunted...despised...living like an animal -- the jungle is my home! But I will show the world that I can be its master. I shall perfect my own race of people -- a race of atomic supermen which will conquer the world!

quote:

"Conan, what is good in life?"
"To crush your enemies, to drive them before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."

quote:

Alas--how terrible is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise, Johnny.

Also from that movie

quote:

I want you to show right now how much you love God! I want you to show as your tithe! I want you to open up your hearts! And open up your wallets! And open up your purses! And give it up! Praise the Lord! Somebody's been talking about me, talking about I've been riding around in a Cadillac! If you love me, and you wanna give to me, then I should be in a Rolls Royce!

And

quote:

They say there's enough religion in the world to make men hate each other, but not enough to make them love.

Religion can't force anyone to do anything. Considering the most common religion in the world holds love as the most important commandment, you can't blame the principles for the human failure to live up to them.

Didn't this become part of Arnold's stump speech when he ran for governor? [Wink]

quote:

Church of Women

A lie for a lie, but a truth for the truth

Church of women is made out of milk
which their love turns to butter -er -er
Church of women will have you give praise
with a laugh, bark and stutter -er -er
Like us men like us men they are nothing like us men
Men have gargoyles 'round their hearts
I'm on my knees but dancing

Want to worship at the church of women
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women

Church of women is making donations of loving and giving -ing -ing
Church of women performing that miracle raising the living -ing -ing
Like us men like us men will they ever like us men?
Men have thorns around their minds
I'm on my mountain preaching

Want to worship at the church of women
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women

Lie for a lie, but a truth for the truth
Give 'em back their house: the walls, the doors, the floors and roof
And stop tryin' to diet on the wafers and wine and submit we're in control
Now let's put things right
Let's multiply the loves and kisses
'Til we have enough to love and eat forever

Want to worship at the church of women
I want to worship at the church of women now
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
I'll breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning 'round
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women
Want to worship at the church of women
(Repeat X3 and fade)

Kat, you're such a dork, but I like you anyway. [Kiss]

Poor kat, she's arguing with movie quotes and thinks that Christianity is the most common religion in the world.... she needs to rest her poor fevered mind!

Dude, the actual line is, "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."

Thanks Sax!

Now I remember. It wasn't part of his stump speech.

It was an interview in which Arnold was asked what he liked best about being Governor of California - I think he might have been talking about Democratic legislators. [Wink]

Christianity is the world's most common religion.

Thread derailment is a grand Hatrack tradition. She said, dignified.

And thank you, Stormy. *grin*

[Hat] Interesting, I hadn't realized that Christianity had overtaken Islam. I guess this is what happens when you're no longer taking religious studies courses... [Blushing]

Christianity didn't "overtake" Islam. Quite the opposite. Islam has been slowly catching up to Christianity.

Islam has been (is?) the world's fastest growing religion, but not the largest.

My new favorite source of amusing quotes is Arnold's 1985 opus 'Commando.'

(Arnold has dropped a villain off a cliff. He returns to his female companion)
Female Companion: What did you do to him?
Arnold (whose name in this film, incidentally, is the wonderful 'John Matrix'): I let him go.

(Arnold rams a steam vent pipe through his enemy)
Arnold: Why don't you let off some steam?

Also, there's a wonderful montage at the beginning in which we get to see that Arnold loves his daughter (a young Allysa Milano) through the mechanism of watching them feed a baby deer together.

PLUS, the main villain looks like Freddie Mercury. Except that, for no real reason, he wears chain mail.

I greatly value this film.

edit because of the letter 'f'

Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries.

"Aye, fight and you may die, run and you'll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our Freedom?!"
more good ones.
