And on a completely different subject, damn my feet hurt. I've got a couple of plantars warts that are in the final stages of going away, and I went to the dermatologist this morning to have them frozen again. One is on the ball of my right foot, and the other is on the big toe of my left foot. Now I can barely walk.
A month or so ago the dermatologist gave me a perscription for Aldera cream, which triggers an immune response that helps the body to fight off the wart. When I was getting it filled, the pharmacist said "Now, I see that your doctor wrote here that this should be applied every other day. Every three days is more common." I said "Well, I think she wanted me to do it every other day so that I could alternate between an acid pad and the cream." She looked at me kind of funny, and I remembered reading something about Aldera being more commonly perscribed to combat genital warts. I said "this is for treating my plantars warts you know." She looked very relieved.

Abandoned as a tot, he has wormed and squirmed his way through a short, miserable, brutish life. His is small, scrawny, and generally rat-like in appearance, with bow-legged legs from rickets and a scraggly whiskerish beard.
Of course, Craven is an accomplished thief. He had to be in order to survive. Most would peg him in his thirties, although he is actually 23. Alcohol, cigarettes and other indulgences are all weaknesses to him, but he does harbor a secret fondness for animals (yes, a dog kept him alive through the winter with warmth and shelter -- and shared bones) and things of beauty.
He covets beauty and hates that which makes him covet, for it makes him weak.
Would he betray someone? In a heartbeat, but not a true friend. Of course, he's never had a true friend.
Regarding the plantar warts, had you tried (or discussed trying) duct tape as part of the treatment regimen?

Ibuprofen, Noemon? And maybe some corn cushions cut to relieve pressure at that site by transferring the pressure to surrounding areas?

Sounds like a fun character. Wish you were doing it PBEM so I could "watch".
Eh, the foot pain's no big deal--I was just kind of talking. I mean, it hurts, but it's nothing serious.
I do use duct tape on them, actually. I've read that the minor irritation that it produces helps trigger an immune response as well.

Sara--I had to walk down to the post office over my lunch hour, and figured out how to kind of walk around the frozen points without too much trouble. I had kind of a strange rolling gait, but I made decent time, and the frozen places burned a bit but didn't throb or anything. Of course, I'm also on Excedrin kicked off with coffee, so I expect that's helping too.
Seriously, it's no big deal. I'm having a great day except for the foot stuff.
Sarmup, if you put duct tape directly over the wart, it irritates the skin slightly, and as a result an enhanced immune response is triggered in the area, making your system more capable of fighting off the wart. That's what I've read anyway. I can't vouch for whether it works or not.

Just don't let them get so bad and deep they leave holes the size of a dime after they anesthetise them and dig them out. I also would suggest Uggs as alternative footwear during this time.

INTERVENTION: Patients were randomized using computer-generated codes to receive either cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen applied to each wart for 10 seconds every 2-3 weeks) for a maximum of 6 treatments or duct tape occlusion (applied directly to the wart) for a maximum of 2 months. Patients had their warts measured at baseline and with return visits. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Complete resolution of the wart being studied. RESULTS: Of the 51 patients completing the study, 26 (51%) were treated with duct tape, and 25 (49%) were treated with cryotherapy. Twenty-two patients (85%) in the duct tape arm vs 15 patients (60%) enrolled in the cryotherapy arm had complete resolution of their warts (P =.05 by chi(2) analysis). The majority of warts that responded to either therapy did so within the first month of treatment. CONCLUSION: Duct tape occlusion therapy was significantly more effective than cryotherapy for treatment of the common wart. [bold added]

They're well on their way to being gone actually. I wouldn't be surprised if this freezing is the last treatment I'll need. Christine had a couple of plantar's warts on one of her feet that she let go for about a decade before making a concerted effort to get rid of them. Before she'd have them frozen now and then, but wasn't persistent enough with it to actually get rid of them. At my urging, she started working on getting rid of them two years ago, and is just now succeeding in doing so; I'm definitely not letting mine get entrenched like that. Somehow I find plantars warts to be just utterly repellant. I can't wait until these things are off of me for good.

I've had one before, back when I was in junior high school. It was murderous. My mother treated it with salicylic acid and (don't do this, anyone, please) digging around with a scalpel to "remove the seed."

That was a blast. Spark the teenage Orc was quite the professional, although Craven kept fumbling and poking himself with the poisoned traps (and driving one of his own darts into his eye, and so forth). Still, his tumbles were of legendary quality.
Still, did the Overlook campaign ever literally make you fall onto the floor, wheezing with laughter?
The standard was raised. The food was top-notch, the gamemastering unparalleled (Tom really is amazing), and the side entertainment in the form of Sophie's new Bronx cheer skill was exquisite.

No, but it has made me mutter "oh my god!" and "Slash, you bastard!" under my breath more than once.
I haven't played a funny game of D&D in a decade. Actually, my funny games were usually Gamma World.
I expect that the food Tom served was better than Slash's usual fare though, I'll give you that.
It can be a lot of fun sitting around with friends using a role playing game as an excuse for silliness, can't it?

Corona with lime is a girly beer in Wisconsin, perhaps. But, then, Christy drinks tequila straight, so YMMV.
The reason this game wound up "funny," IMO, is that Sara's self-deprecation extends to her PCs -- which, coupled with her uncanny ability to roll only 20s and 1s the entire night (and I'm not kidding, here; the number of 1s in particular was unequalled in my experience), made for some truly amusing moments.
Christy's orc's rather cheerful and co-dependent nature was also something for which I as a DM was not quite prepared, having mostly encountered orcs of another sort. Posts: 37449 | Registered: May 1999
