quote:"At the time we closed the case, we had been assured that Mom was stabilized and that she was not a risk to herself or her children," Geoff Wool, spokesman for the Family and Protective Services Department, said.
What does it mean, 'we had been assured.' Didn't they run their own tests?

Well, if Mom saw a psychiatrist, then perhaps the psychiatrist assured them she had stabilized.
Y'all, docs and child protective services and the police aren't God. You cannot always predict what someone will do.
This is one of the most horrific tragedies I've ever heard of - in some ways it makes me feel sicker than the Andrea Yates story.

You can only do so much to prevent a tragedy like this. While it's good to ask "what might have helped prevent this?" we can never forget that we can only control certain things. Not everything works as it is supposed to, all the time, and spending time trying to figure out who should have seen it coming is just vindictive. The horse is gone. Closing the barn door doesn't help, now. All we can really do is cry.
The poor child. The poor family. I can't imagine what it must feel like. I wish I could stop trying to.

::shivers:: That really is scary. Where was the husband or baby's daddy during this? After I have children, I'm going though therapy, even if I don't show any signals.

Jim-me, that was absolutely horrible. Although too late, hopefully that woman can get the help she apparently, so desparately needs. Hopefully the soul of that child is at peace wherever it is.
