I am a supersized lady, and I'm comfortable with that. I wear sweatshirts and blue jeans and generally don't care how I look, as long as I am clean.
But.
I love my hands. They are small and fat and soft. They are like two pretty pink starfish at the ends of my arms, and I've always been very lucky to have soft skin on my hands, no matter what kind of soap I wash with or household cleaning solution I splatter on them. And now....*sob*...now I have a rash on my right hand. I have a red, dry, tingly rash that began on the fleshy part between my thumb and my forefinger (on the top) and has spread to my pinky finger-knuckle and the edge of my hand. This began a week or so ago and I dismissed it as a temporary irritation, but it's still there.
Sniffle.
Am I being ridiculous? Should I go to the doctor for such a petty thing? (I have comprehensive health care)
I haven't changed my diet, my soap, or my cleansing solutions. Dangit. I feel so silly.

I'm really not sure about the rash, but I have to say, your description of your hands as two pretty pink starfish at the ends of your arms made me very happy. Such a great mental image.

Good luck with that. I would google it if I were you. You might be able to narrow it down and help you decide if you want to talk to a doctor.

If it was me, I'd probabaly call my doctor about it, since it has been over a week and the rash is spreading.
I, too, really like my hands. I have very long fingers (and especially long thumbs), so they look thinner than they actually are. A friend of mine lost most of the fingers on her right hand in an accident. She wouldn't care what size her fingers were if she could get them back...

I love my hands. They seem normal-sized to me, but when people try on my rings, I realize they're really small compared to average. A 5 1/4 ring finger isn't THAT tiny, is it?
((jexx)) I'm so glad you love your hands. Hands are a wonderful thing. I'd see a doc, if it's been over a week and spreading. I usually try fucidin when I get a skin rash.

Yeah, I'd go if it was painful or irritating.
The dread comes from doctors' attitudes that no matter what is wrong with an obese person, it is the obesity that caused it. And some of them won't DO anything until after a prescribed weight loss. I have had friends die from cancer because they were fat. "You have pain there? Bleeding problems? Lose some weight and it will go away." Right. They didn't necessarily get cancer because they were fat. The problem was they didn't get treatment for it because they were fat.
My clothes have 5X on the tags.

Dead Horse, I hear ya. Some of my clothes say 1X and some say 2X. To compound the problem, I am a smoker. I understand that some medical concerns are attached to both things, but I don't think this would be one of them.
The thing is, there is no pain or itching, just a sort of tingle that is so minor I forget it's there half the time.
No matter, I am calling for an appt. in the morning.

jexx, rashes are impossible to evaluate if you can't see them, and often even then. The world of medical enigmas.
But if you are having trouble ridding yourself of something and especially if you have a family history of diabetes, you might want to get your blood sugar checked while you are at the office. Lingerng infections always make me think of diabetes, too.

Bev, I also have a very small head, which is a pain. It's very difficult to find glasses or a good hat when you're stuck in the children's department. Every year I buy McKid's sunglasses at Wal-Mart. Anyway, my sister's name for my head is "shrunken pygmy head."

I don't have a small head - it's pretty normal. But I have a very very small nose. So finding glasses is very difficult for me, too. Kids ones aren't wide enough or long enough for the ears.
But then my hands and feet are huge. Back when I lived where there was actually a winter, I had to buy my gloves in the mens department. Ugh.
Being odd is, well, I dunno.

Growing up my best friend and I both played the piano. We played duets together. We both, technically had large hands, which is good for pianists. But even though we could both reach a 10th her fingers were so much more slender and beautiful than mine. I was always just a smidgen envious. My fingers are wide and stumpy even though they are long. One of those lingering regrets in my life... I'll never have nice hands, even if they are strong and capable. I do like my nose though. I got it from my paternal grandmother and no one else in my family has it, not even my Dad.
Me too, Bev. They look exactly like my mother's. It's like having her attached to my body every where I go.
Oh man, AJ. The lady that played piano at my church had been playing for, like, 75 years. She could reach a 10 too, but her hands were literally the smallest hands I'd ever seen. It was so weird. They are like child's hands. It made me way jealous.
