I am making a turkey for myself now so that when I get back on Friday it will be waiting for me. Then I will make-
A chocolate cake
macoroni and cheese if I can get a cheap caserole dish. If not, I'll improvise. I knew I shouldn't have thrown that one away, but had moldy macoroni from being on my porch for several months. (Don't ask!)
I just made the stuffing. It's not stove top, it comes in a bag. I fried some green onions, a white onion and some garlic and giblets and mixed them in the stuffing. Then I stuffed the bird for the first time.
This guy I met said that if you stuff the turkey the broth will come out cloudy when you make soup.
I will also try to make candied yams, but I don't know how.
I want to try to make greens with smoked turkey in it and also some squash. I have never made squash but I got it for free...
I also have all these free apples too.. and I will make mash potatoes.
Food is the only really good thing about having so many social holidays crammed into 3 months.

My parents bought some crazy thing that is apparantly a combination of turkey, duck, and chicken. I am a bit nervous about it, but for $75 it better be one darn good bird.

I made the cheesecake tonight. Tomorrow will be pie, probably, and rolls, as my mother will be doing pretty much all the hard stuff. [Smile]

Ooooh Jeni, I've seen them here.

One fancy butcher used to do a quail stuffed in a chicken stuffed in a duck stuffed in a goose stuffed in a turkey.... (All boned).

Apparently it can be quite hard to cook and get all the meat cooked and not dry. Let me know how your parents' one goes!

Turducken! I saw it on foodtv last year and wanted to try it. They also showed deep-fried turkey which also sounds good. Then again, anything fried is good, haha.

Syn, are you putting the dressing inside an uncooked turkey, and then letting it set a few days?

You'll want to make sure the stuffing gets really fully cooked because of the bacteria in the bird. This is harder if it's been sitting inside an uncooked bird, but it can be done.

Happy Thanksgiving! [Smile] Sounds like you are setting quite the table.

I just made my stuffing (ezekiel bread, celery, onion, parsley, sage, butter, chicken broth) and now B. is making the creme brulee and getting the bread started. When my pumpkin defrosts I will make the pie. Thgen he will get the Beef Wellington started, and when it's in the oven I'll start the garlic mashed potatos. We'll eat crackers with facny cheese while it all cooks.

Well, my mom messed up the instructions for the turducken. It was supposed to be cooked covered for the first few hours, and she failed to do that. I'll let you all know how it turns out though.

I just made the cheese and sausage tray, which is about as far as my cooking skills reach.

I cooked a turkey today.

I'm vegetarian.

It was really icky....

But it was a success! Everyone says it is delicious. ^_^

Even though I don't eat it, I figure I'll eventually be making Thanksgiving dinner for my family so now is as good a time as any to learn how. Plus, it's my mom's birthday today, and I didnt want her to do all the work.

So, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Turducken is icky and not a very good idea. I don't recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for the heads-up. It sounds even less appealing than before.
