Especially any who may know something about the LDS Church in Canada.
Well, basically, the scholarly information I have gets gut off at about 1967, when "A History of the Mormon Church in Canada" was published. The local church library has almost nothing, and I'm finding very little in any scholarly journals.
So I know this is pretty absurdly open-ended, I was wondering if anyone here could point me in a relevant direction. I'm working mostly on the growth of the church, how it has had to adapt to Canadian society, and any regional variations that might pop up.
Thanks to everyone.

I'm Canadian, Mormon, and served my mission in Ontario where a lot of Church history in Canada and "cultural adaption" has taken place. I have some tidbits that might help you hone (sp?) your search.
Second, take a look at the RLDS Church (Now Community of Christ) and thier current leader - not a direct descendant of Joseph Smith III, and a Canadian to boot. He's from Ontario (exact town escapes me now...). The Community of Christ has a relativley strong following in Ontario. One town I served in (Stratford) had a much larger CoC congregation than the plain-jane LDS church did. While there, I met John Nichols, who is majorly involved in the CoC in Canada, so I can put you in contact with him if you'd like.
You might also want to look into the few polygamous groups around the country. BC has a couple, with thier own LDS-offshoot names, and there are some very low-profile polygamous groups in rural western ontario, although those I met associated themselves with the Mennonites rather than the LDS Church.
Other than that... can't really help you much, except to say that I now live in Southern Alberta, which is as Mormon as you get in Canada. My Brother-in-Law, though, makes a hobby of religous studies and might know more about specific people (Like N. Eldon Tanner) or places than I.

FYI... i found on the website linked above that the web author has not been LDS since about 1989, so i wouldn't trust the content explicitly.

Thanks for the warnings, all. I took a look at the site, but I found the pointers towards the splinter-groups more helpful anyway, since the question of "authenticity" has been a major focus in class.
Just one question, since I got very confused on the main LDS site and couldn't find the info... Does anyone know how many stakes there are in Canada, currently?

Yeah, it's pretty clear that site isn't very sympathetic to the LDS Church, or to religion at all.
His quotes page is interesting - he seems to have a penchant for collecting the facile and simplistic quotes condemning religion, not the ones that really cut.

though it'll take some work, this is the best place to get the factual data you appear to be looking for. http://lds.org/newsroom/ciyaPosts: 494 | Registered: Mar 2000

Although it wasn't directed towards me, thanks to you, Kristine, for pointing out that Almanac! Didn't know such a thing existed. Just ordered my copy.
