Katie and Catherine and I were talking yesterday, and we realized that none of us really know how to pronounce your handle. I think we decided that "zenera" is the easiest to think/say, but other possibilities we discussed were "ex-nera" and "ex-en-era". Is it any of those three, or something we didn't even come up with?

Hobbes. Any thread not about me is obviously a result an oversight.

Well I had to liven the thread up, what better way than totally ridiculous sentances?

I always pronounced it ex-nera. Or alternately, X-ey. Unfortunately, X-ey is having the troubles with her internets. She probably won't be back on until at least tomorrow. [Smile] But then I'm sure she'll answer your question with more of the how you say... accuracy.

I pronounce it ex-nera, probably because I read too much eddings.

In my mind's ear, it's always been "znera" rhyming with "era".

aspectre and Noemon have it...at least in my opinion. [Smile] That's how I've always pronounced it in my head.

You should look in this thread on the second page. [Big Grin]

I now feel like an oldbie because I actually directed someone to an old thread! Whee!

I've always pronounced it "zee-NER-ah." But this is actually the third thread on the subject, IIRC. [Smile]

This is the third thread on the subject? I feel slighted that no-one has questioned the pronunciation of my name.

If I ever meet you guys and you pronounce it wrong, you will feel my squirrely wrath.

Imogen, I always pronounce yours with a long "i" sound and a long "o" sound.

EYE - mo - gen

Am I wrong?

Almost, but not quite right. It's a short i at the start, short o and a soft g.

im-o-JEN

but the emphasis isn't very strong at all.

(the french is imogene and the soft j continues in the english)

(and Farmgirl, I'm very happy you actually have considered the issue. Makes me feel real-ish. [Smile] )

I guess I was thinking "J" instead of "G" on the JEN part, even though I wrote it the other way. As in the name Jenny, for the last syllable. But I definately had the emphasis on the wrong part...

Megan, maybe you feel like an oldbie, but it'd be a lot more convincing if you actually LINKED to the second page... [Wink]

I've always pronounced it zee-neh-ra. But I vary it a little sometimes. Nothing drastic enough to write down!

*did search, but missed that thread...* [Blushing]

So, it's ex-near-uh, with a slight emphasis on the middle, apparently. But she doesn't mind zen-er-uh, so I think that's what I'll stick with. [Wink]

Ooo, a thread devoted to ME! [Big Grin]

First, for any newbies about who may not know, my screenname is actually my real name in rot13. I'm actually much more picky about the capitalization than I am about pronounciation or spelling. I answer to just about any pronounciation that sounds close (which means "dingbat" is NOT a valid pronounciation), and overlook most spelling errors as it's not exactly easy to spell. However, I get all [Mad] if someone uses a capital x. The only exception is when Abby-chan calls me X-ey. Then it's okay to use a capital x. [Smile]

As I said on the thread Megan linked, I pronounce it "ex-near-ah", and sometimes just call myself x. But I have heard many other pronounciations, and none have really grated on me, so pretty much any is fine.

ketchupqueen, your package arrived Friday. [Smile] Originally I planned to wait until Christmas to open it. My family only buys presents for the neice and nephews. Well, I do get a calendar and chocolates from my mom every year, but those are expected, and it's nice to get something unexpected. So I was going to wait so I had something to open on Christmas. But after my absolutely completely horrible no-good Friday evening, I was in need of some pampering and opened it late Saturday. I LOVED it. Thank you! For those not us, she sent me a cloth clutch purse in a cool black-and-white print, and inside were Harry Potter stickers, some sparkly anime-type stickers, some Yu-gi-oh pencils, and a small, pretty notebook. [Big Grin] Fun! The purse is actually very similar in style to the kind I'm carrying now, so I will definitely put it to use in the future.

I pronounce it zhe-NER-a, where the zhe is a combination of the z sound and sh. Which comes from reading Eddings also. [Smile]

You're welcome!!! I'm glad I could brighten your day a little. *wipes brow in relief that she did good after all that research*

Edited to add: just read about your day. Poor thing. SBC can be so irritating! *knows from experience*
