I'm tired so if I don't make sense.. I'm sorry..
So my mother-in-law showed me this forward she got in her email and it's about a research on plastic and that chemicals from plastic can cause cancer if you heat plastic up with your food or even freeze a water bottle.
I thought maybe it made sense, since once plastic was made the cases of cancer increased. (Or just the knowledge of what cancer was increased.)
I just was wondering if anyone heard anything about it or knew more about this plastic theory. Is this just one of those "cell phones cause cancer things" or can it be a breakthrough to the cause of cancer.
Perhaps it's a number of things that can cause cancer...

I heard about this about a year ago. They found that in fairly high concentrations, the chemicals that are released when you, say, re-heat food in a plastic take-home container cause cancer in mice or rats or something. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's like the thing with potato chips causing cancer; of all the things that cause cancer, potato chips aren't even in the top 200. Cigarette smoke is what you really need to be afraid of.

The incidence of cancer has gone up in good part because people are living longer. In the 19th century, infection was a big killer -- now we usually live through that. We live to a ripe old age, and that is when the majority of cancers show up.

Medical information and warnings contained in circulating emails are usually wrong and always deeply suspect. If by some chance it is serious and important, you will also hear about it from a better source. Always look at snopes to ascertain the veracity of email information like that before passing it along. In fact, you will probably make your friends and family very happy if you simply don't pass stuff like that along at all.

People are living longer because of plastic!!! So plastic *is* causing cancer! I knew it!

While I basicall never pass on e-mails, I ahve to confess that while most people around me are of the "Prove it causes cancer before I give this up" bent, I am of the "Prove this doesn't cause cancer, and I'll use it". Of course this leads to very limited microwaving, only in glass and ceramic, lots of label reading, no bleached paper products... the list goes on.
Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about real ice CREAM, eaten in moderation...it's the ice CHEM you have to watch out for.

Actually, yes it does. There's been some new research on lactates done recently, and the findings are rather disturbing. You see the there's a component to milk that is, while normally harmless, potentially quite dangerous. It can be "activated", and is a serious problem for cancer (or more sepcifically, cancer causing agents). What happens is when the milk in the ice cream is frozen some of the cells in it break up from the expansion of water inside of them. This will allow the chemical to be "un-tied" from the inhibitors that normally keep it in check. This hasn't been found before because while frozen it doesn't interact well, and has little to no effect, and all studies have been done on already frozen ice cream, no one's thought to warm it back up, which is when that chemical is fully activated!
