Hi, I am trying to download an older version of netscapes email client. I want 4.68, or is it 4.69? 4.7 will work. No matter where I look on the web, I can only find teh browser. I don't need the browser, I need JUST the email client.
I would advise not installing one of those, then, it may reinitialize the directories it uses on install. I'd advise finding where the address book was kept (if that location still resides on your system), backing that up, then installing, then replacing the address book.

That's what I was thinking too. I suggested finding the adress book file in my first post in that thread. Forgot to worn him about what might happen if he reinstalls it though. Thanks for doing it.

Oh, also you might just try opening the address book in a text editor and seeing if its clear enough you could just transcribe it. Then if the above procedure doesn't work, just do that.

When I explore users I find a folder named Address. When I open the address folder there are three items in it.
Item #1: crlab (looks like an .exe program with it's very own icon of a book). When I double click it, it says "Ordinance 23 could not be located in the dynamic link library mapi32.dll."
Another time I tried to run it, it said, "Not correct version of mapi32 installed." and something about finding the correct dll on the web.
Item #2: crlab8.dll. When I try to open with notpad, it is all jibberish.
Item #3: crlab8en. When I try to open with notpad, it is also jibberish.
I am planning on doing what you said. I have made a back up of profiles, and I will reinstall 4.x (once I download it), and hopefully my address will be there. If not, I will reimplant my back-up into a new profile, and then I can try exporting the addresses so Thunderbird can read them.
Thank yo uso much for your help you two!

Hmm...did you ever have Wordperfect 8 installed on that system, perchance?
I ask because those files sound suspiciously like the Corel Address Book 8 (crlab8 get it?) which at one time had a rather unfortunate problem with MAPI files. It had Netscape as a component as well.

This sounds familiar, it's probably the same goofy MAPI call we each got 4 times a day back when I did Corel Tech Support.
edit: you can e-mail me if you like, mightytick at gmail dot com, as these instructions will probably be difficult to carry out considering they are 5+ years old and MS likes to change where files are/what is available.
