So, I went downtown to see my brother and his wife who were in town sans kids to attend DragonCon. Ate at Everybody's Pizza then lurked in various lobbies to scope the costumes. It was a family-friendly time of day and the boys had fun gawking at their favorite super heroes and various Star Wars, LotR and Anime costumes.
Fishnet may say "one size fits all" but that doesn't mean it's a good idea for some people to wear it. Still, there was nothing salacious, though one wonders why women that large would WANT to dress like the schoolgirl with the mace from KILL BILL. *shrug*
AAAANYWAY... We should do the WenchCon thing again, maybe add a dash of Anime, since many of the core Wenches are now Anime-ted.
What do you think? Should we use MLK day again, or wait until later in the spring? I think this year I might even be able to set up a dealers' room, if I have enough time. Does that sound like fun?
Throw out ideas about what you think would be fun:
Costuming, karaoke, invading a restaurant or mall in costume...
The floor is open.

Where is this held? I think you should hold it in Boston so I can go ^^. And we should watch Miyazaki movies all day long and disturbing anime movies! And go to a fairly high brow resturant dressed like Gundams or something.

If the floor is open, won't you fall through it? Why can't any of these gatherings happen in Arizona, or at least close to it?

Okay then. It has been Atlanta (or close, anyway) the last two times. If we want to move it somebody else will have to organize it.
To those who attended previous WenchCons: Same hotel or not? I think the MLK weekend is the best time to get the cheapest deals on the hotel meeting rooms, etc. Should we go for two meeting rooms, with one showing movies and one with other activities? More fencing, anyone (now that Jamie has been taking classes and can cut us all up blindfolded)?

I would definitely consider coming back to the same place, cause it's within driving distance for me.

Being relatively new here I don't know exactly what wenchcon is (probably a gaming/faire/fandom thing) but I have to say that it has the best name out of anything, ever. Where and when is it???

I wanna come!!! But I don't know... My parents probably wouldn't be too keen on me going on a road trip alone to the south... :/ Hmmm... Must think on't. Mayhap one of the fine people in the Williams family will go and oblige me by dragging me along. We shall see.

:giggle: Ryuko, Atlanta is a 17 hour drive. I'm thinking an airplane would be a good idea. But for me it totally depends on when it is... if people want to do it in the spring, I will be otherwise occupied in Iowa. (So will you.)
Anyway, we'll see how the plans shake out...

All I know is that I plan to be in Georgia the last week of October for the Savannah Film Fest. Apart from that, who knows when I'll be able to get back down there.
But you better believe I'll try and make it whenever it is...

I'm cool with anywhere, but I only feel comfortable making the arrangements here in Atlanta. If DC looks good to lots of folks, we'll need a DC person to find a hotel, etc.
I also think it would be best to have an Event Planner to make the schedule ahead of time. Jenny G would be ideal for this, but only if she's willing. Schedules are not my bag.
Ben, we're into the geeky stuff because of my brother, mainly. He started a Starfleet thingy and piad the whole families' memberships to get his quota (even my mom helped make costumes and stuff, at one point). Anyway, shut up, you dork.
About later in the spring... I think hotel rates may go up around here sometimes in March. The weather at that time should be fairly mild, though.

I think the Gathering later in the spring is going to be in Iowa for The Wedding. I still like the idea of January for WenchCon, but I'm flexible.
Olivia, if WenchCon was in D.C., could you come?

I think the cons are becoming more frequent. I have no doubt that a summer con will be planned at the The Wedding.

You mean there was a gathering in Atlanta and I missed it? Just damn. . . I always miss the fun stuff. Oh well, I hope everyone made it home all right. ATL was no fun to be near today. Sigh...maybe next time...

I noticed the lack of traffic tonight as I drove to school (KSU). A trip that normally takes me around 45 minutes took only about 30 minutes today. I didn't even have to sit in line at Chastain Road.
Any type of bad weather doesn't mix well with ATL traffic. I love ATL but...not all the cars.

I am more likely to be able to attend Wenchcon III if it is in Atlanta, as that is driving distance for me.

KSU!?! I live Just north of Kennesaw, in a sleepy hamlet called Towne Lake (technically part of Woodstock, even though it has its own zip code). I may be taking some continuing education courses at KSU very soon.
BTW, the last WenchCon was held at the Winngate Inn on Barret parkway. We saw RotK at Barret Commons (or... MANY of us did). It was kind of Lotr-ish con, that grew out of the Wenche's Tavern threads. They were very amusing for some time, but have mostly faded away, naturally.
Anybody want to post some links to Wenche's Tavern threads or discussions of the WenchCons I and II? I'd be much obliged, and It will give folks an idea what to expect. Also, Makillian has some amazing pics from the last one on her Mad Owl site.

Later in the spring would probably be best for Vána (and possibly myself) - the more time we have to plan the finances, the better.

When is _very_ important for me...probably moreso than where, since the chances of convincing you all to come to New Orleans are very slim, I'm sure.
Later in the spring gets my vote; I go to Cannes again in January, and I can't have two trips that close together.

How's a guy supposed to make a vacation schedule without knowing when and where all the wenches will be?
My vote's for either the first week in February or the last to coincide with my Boston-New Orleans (or the other way around) roadtrip. .
Or we could do it in Boston around the time of Boskone and drop in and see OSC and George Martin. (But I'm biased--I'm planning on being there, anyway. )
January's only a month away! And February's....*counts on fingers*...only...two months away!

asdgkweongviko.... I WANNA GO!!!
I am SO going to go to a con attended by GRRM someday. The next Worldcon would be lovely, as I hear Ran may attend, and it would be awesome to meet the master of ASOAIF triva as well, but really, any con would be good, though one with a big presence of the BwB would be lovely. I need to meet him! *starts saving pennies*

There is a henna party that weekend in February. There were rumblings about TMMedina and Olivette organizing something in Atlanta, but I don't know if she's up to it right now. If Atlanta won't work, I still like the idea of D.C.

Boskone sounds like a really cool idea though....does everyone who wants to attend have to registrer or is there a daily fee we could pay? If I go JenniK will want to go and $84 si a pretty steep price to go say hi to OSC for a total of 2 min, if you know what I mean....

I'm interested, but not sure about my plans either, but I could probably go any time, with the exception of around the release of Serenity, I'm busy.
