Our neighbors are strange. Maybe we're the strange ones and they're normal, I don't know.

My daughter is actually in the same class as the neighbor's little boy. How nice, we thought. The other weekend she asked if she could ask him to play, so I sent her over there. As she walks over (the little boy is on his porch) he yells, "You need to get back on your property, X!" Huh? So she yells that she wants to play and he says they're getting ready to leave. The next time she wanted to play with him we walked her over there. The husband answers the door, and tells our daughter she can go downstairs and play with his son. He invites us in, but doesn't ask us to sit down, and pretty much watches TV while we try and make small talk. I found out from my daughter later that the wife was downstairs the entire time (she never came up to meet us). Last week at school the little boy told my daughter that she wasn't allowed to come over and play till his baby sister was older. Umm, his "baby" sister is almost 3.

So this weekend my husband notices that the neighbors are building a barn. He goes over and lets the guy know that he'd be happy to help. The guy says, "Okay." That's all. So my husband finally just turned around and walked back home.

I don't know what to do now. Do I just ignore them, and assume that they're big weirdos? I was really looking forward to meeting the wife, but now I feel strange going over there. [Dont Know]

It certainly doesn't sound like a happy situation to me. But you never know, they may just come from somewhere where things are different and not know how to fit in.

Reminds me of reportage on couples in SiliconValley: where Aspergers meets Aspergers.

If I were in your shoes this would be the point where I decided to give them a fairly wide berth.

It has all the makings for a new The Stupids book: "The Stupids Make New Friends."
