So, remember what you said in that other thread about a bad start? This ain't the way to make it better. Seriously, if you want to make an honest shot at fitting in around here, please don't post crap like this.

This is my obligatory one feeding of the troll. I hereby promise to disregard this poster from now on if he does not make an honest attempt to be a contributing member of the community. [Wink]

why does it matter? Just dont respond to his post if you dont like it. He will get the picture if he is totally ignored. Personally I dont care whether he posts this or not. It matters so little, there is no point in making a fuss about it.

Actually, what bugs me about the thread title is the lousy grammar.

". . . more drunk than I???!" would be correct. Tsk.

True. Thing is, I have that one set to auto-correct in my brain. [Wink]

(Also, Tom, I answered your questions regarding my preferences in my laptop thread -- but you never came back with recommendations. *hopeful* Pretty please?)

Well, Tom, I disagree. I think you are bashing this poor youngster for his grammar, when I believe it is a spelling error he is making.

Hum. Could someone explain to a humble foreigner when you're supposed to use "I" and when you're supposed to use "me" ? I never quite understood it and end in using my feeling.

I think it's one of those examples that can go either way, depending on whether you consider yourself to be the object of that sentence, or the subject of another clause.

Who is more drunk than I am?
Who is more drunk than me?

I'll take your word for it; this was one on which I was always a bit fuzzy.

And prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

[ROFL] I've never heard that one before; I like it. I still don't think I can regularly place prepositions at the end of sentences in my writing, but it makes a good point, I suppose.

The proper phrasing should have been: "Who was more drunk that I (was)?"

I think that I was very "tipsy" once. I was permitted 2 wine glasses (sister's wdding), so I naturally had 3 red and 4 white. I also verifid that each exceeded 14% of alcohol. That was dinner, then the dancing started.

I lost track of the amount of test-tubs with oblique substances I was offered, more so the vodka.

I loved the feeling, and slept about 8 hours extra.

*** *** *** *** ***

I think that the first post was inappropriate. It should have been written without UNUsuAL CapiTALISaTion, or weird ways to write a full stop>

But, then, who am I to speak?

"Could someone explain to a humble foreigner when you're supposed to use 'I' and when you're supposed to use 'me' ? I never quite understood it and end in using my feeling."

When you are the subject -- i.e. doing the acting -- you use "I." When you are the object -- i.e. having something done to you -- you use "me."

In other words, "Susan and I ran to the store." "Carol was less happy than I with the result." (Note: In the second sentence, the verb "was" has been omitted, but is still implied.) "She handed the barrel to Bob and me."

All I know, Tom, is that the verb 'to be' makes both the subject and the predicate be in the 'subject' form. That is from Latin.

I always sort out the "I" and "me" issue by removing the other person.

"Jane and Me went to the store" = "Me went to the store" = Wrong!

Therefore,

"Jane and I went to the store."

OR:

"Peter phoned Jane and I" = "Peter phoned I" = Wrong!

Therefore,

"Peter phoned Jane and Me."
