Please! I had this argument to exhaustive length when the song came out. Every example in her song (and Corwin's suggestion) is ironic. The mistake is in assuming that all irony must be dramatic irony or irony of fate.

Sooo... Where was I ? Yeah, I promised to tell you more about the concert later on June 28th (it was actually the 29th for me)... Errr... Well, the fact is that the place I stayed at closed on the 30th, so I had to move, and that took me an evening and the entire next day... Oh well, forget the excuses, it's weeekend now, so there goes:
The concert was supposed to start at 8:30PM. So I got out of work at 5:30 instead of the usual 6, and through the complicated system of bus + subway (+ food break) + subway + bus I finally got to the concert hall at 7:30. I figured there would be a little early crowd around there... I was right about the early crowd part, as for the little... By the time I got inside the music hall the only places left were either standing and far away from the stage, or seated and... yeap, you guessed: far away from the stage. I chose one of the latter.
A group called Magnet - which I've never heard of - was supposed to sing in the first part, but they had some problems and couldn't come, so they were replaced by a local band. Hmm... I forgot the name They weren't that good anyway. Ah, I found it: they're named Cabane. It's probably the first and last time anyone on Hatrack ever hears about them...
Then the truly ironic part started. We had to wait for a full hour before Alanis Morissette was there ! Heck, if I had known I would have brought something to read ! And I have no games on my cell-phones... And was alone... Boring, boring, boring...
Just when I was starting to think: 'How ironic would it be if she couldn't show up ?!' the lights went out, and the real thing started ! The first detail I noticed was... she cut her hair ! I almost didn't recognized her at first ! (I was a mile away, anyway...) There are some photos of her with the new look on her website (musings section), and she's quite cool like this.
To my shame I don't remember what the first songs were, but the nobody from the public seemed to find them great anyway. Perhaps we all got a little stiff from all the waiting... Finally, there came Hands clean and we got a taste of the real Alanis.
What followed was better and better: Eight easy steps and Everything gave us a taste of the new album, So Called Chaos, but the song that really make it worth buying is This Grudge. She put her guitar aside and held her hands together while singing in a perfect image of vulnerability, tenderness and timidity...
Of course an Alanis Morissette concert would be nothing without songs like You learn, Head over feet or You oughta know.
But what about Ironic ?! Well, it finally came after a little break and we were treated with a slightly modified version:
quote:It's meeting the man of my dreams And then meeting his beautiful husband
I must tell you, it was one of the most exciting moments I've ever lived in a crowd, with everyone singing like mad !
There was a last reprise with Thank you, and then it was all over. A dream-like concert, hampered only by the one hour wait between the two parts.
That's all folks. If you ever put your hands on her new album, buy it, it's surely worth the money.
Jon Boy & Chris Bridges: I'm definitely what you earthlings call a 'he'
And as rivka remarked, it's kind of ironic that Chris excused himself, when it was actually Jon Boy who said I was a girl... Perhaps he was thinking it too ?!
As for Papa Moose's 'Attlebish' thing, I must admit I have no idea what he's talking about. Maybe a later google search or the Moose himself will reveal the mistery ?!
Ok, now I'm truly leaving. Hope you'll enjoy my little review.

Oh, the happy memories! You really don't need me to tell you what I'm listening to right now, do you?

I guess I missed this the first time around. I saw her last year, too, with Bare Naked Ladies. Some very strange and mentally disturbed person (who sounded like spastic farm animals writhing in feverish agony) opened and made me wish I had a potato cannon. Except I would have used tomatoes.
BNL was highly entertaining. I think it's against the law for them not to be, and of course Alanis was awesome.

Forgot about this thread. Corwin Attlebish is a character from an Asimov book. One of the robot novels -- The Naked Sun perhaps. It's just the only other time I've heard the name Corwin, so it sticks.

Any band that performs a synchronized routine (is that redundant?) with shopping carts is OK in my book.
