Two and a half years ago, I was hired into the game industry with no prior experience. I considered it a massive lucky break that I had done nothing to earn, and that I was going to spend the rest of my life trying to deserve.

Now I feel that the universe has returned to its proper order. Starting with my recommendation, my company just interviewed and hired one of my best friends from California, and assigned him to the same meta-project that I'm working on.

So the lucky break that I received has now been passed on to another, and my Karma is restored to normal.

Congrats to my friend Russ!

Nice. [Smile]

Say... you wouldn't happen to have room for a usability consultant, would you? You know... the more karma the better! [Wink]

Hey, um, Geoff, you know that I'm interested in game design, right? Surely you haven't paid back all that karma yet....
*nudge*

(Actually, as a side note, I"ll remind Hatrackers in the Wisconsin area that my offer stands: if you need a job in IT, apply to Edgewood and let me know about it and I'll get you an interview.)

So, how grateful is Russ? [Smile] And have you given any consideration to how he's going to have to pay back his karmic debt to the universe?

Would you really move to a coastal region, Tom? Even if you had a job in designing games waiting for you?

I would say that in order for the universe to be in balance, you'd have to lose the job.

But that's just me.

m_p_h - me too! I was afraid to read the post, expecting to see "and now that I've been laid off, the universe is satisified" or something. Whew.

HAHAHAHAHA! No, you're right, it's not the universe that's in balance. Just my piece of it. I got a nice bit of luck, and then helped to create one for someone else. Russ still has his to pay off [Smile]

Count me among those who thought Geoff was leading up to a story of his being laid off.

Hm. Geoff, based on these responses, you may have actually -- and accidentally -- reminded the universe of its obligations. I would take a number of steps immediately to ensure that you aren't about to unexpectedly get laid off or anything. [Smile]

I was afraid to mention it. Ever have a bad dream where everytime you think about something terrible, it happens to you?

He needs a scape-beast that he can symbolically give his job to, and then drive off into the desert. That would take care of it, I think.

I think Electronic Arts actually has that policy: they anoint a completely unknown stranger king for a year, at which point they sacrifice him to dark gods to keep the company going.
